Pune International Marathon is 32nd international marathon which is going to held on 3rd December 2017

Do you know what is Marathon??

Marathon is the popular longest race in Athletics which was started in India at Pune Now this marathon is widely used as platform to spread social message and also helpful in contributing funds for charitable cause. Pune Marathon awarded a status of National marathon championship to Pune International Marathon from Athletics Federation of India.

Let us know the history that how this Marathon is started??

Way back in 1918, the first trial for selection of Indian runners for the marathon in Antwerp Olympics (1919) was held in Pune at Deccan Gymkhana. Phadeppa Chaugule of Sangli was the first Indian Olymkpian marathoner. After that Athletics Federation of India conducted its first National Marathon Championship in Pune in 1980. The Indian team for Moscow Olympics was selected for Pune Marathon and after that tradition of marathon is continued thereafter till 1983 when the organizers of the Pune Marathon Trust converted this event into an International Marathon. Ever since then, the Pune International Marathon is the only event which is being organized consistently for the last 31 years. So far, Pune International Marathon has produced several Olympian marathoners including Lalita Babar, Monika Athare and Sindhu Singh. Savio D’souza was the only athlete who has recorded a hattrick in the Pune International Marathon. This year, the 32nd edicition of Pune International Marathon is emerging as an event of the city’s people-Punekars, with technical assistance from the Pune International Marathon Trust will be organizing this prestigious event on 3rd December.

The event will also feature Junior Races for girls and boys of age below 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 years. These races will be held on November 25 at Kataria High School Pune. In addition there is Run for My Pune, the non-competitive three-kilometer run for enthusiastic Punekar.

This time Federation have added some new interesting feature for this Marathon that is there will a special corporate Run which is focused on the runners of the corporate sector.

If you are not able to run too far there will a cutoff time for all categories like:-

Full Marathon- 45km

Half Marathon- 25 km

And for other is 10 km and 5km Run.
