Theme and Host Country for World Environment Day 2021

This year the theme of World Environment Day 2021 is “Ecosystem Restoration”

Host Country

This year Pakistan will be the host country for World Environment Day 2021

2021 offers us a great opportunity to kickstart a global movement through the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, which will be launched this year on World Environment Day, as we seek to re-balance the relationship between humans and nature.

There are many forms of ecosystem restoration: growing trees, greening towns, re-wilding gardens, changing diets or cleaning up rivers and coasts. This is the generation that, with nature, can make peace.

Ecosystems are relying on all parts from the smallest bacteria to the largest vertebrate. It’s all interconnected. Some are producing oxygen that others are breathing. Some provide food for larger species, which in turn become prey to even larger species. Every living organism has a role to play in the maintenance of balance.

All life on Earth is supported by ecosystems. The earth – and its inhabitants – would be happier if our habitats are healthy. The United Nations Decade on “Ecosystem Restoration” aims to prevent, delay, and reverse environmental destruction on all continents and in all oceans. It has the potential to aid in the prevention of hunger, the mitigation of climate change, and the averting of mass extinction. It will only thrive if everyone contributes.

The vitality and diversity of Earth’s ecosystems are the foundation of human prosperity and well-being, from forests and farmlands to freshwater, oceans, and coasts. Despite this, we are depleting these valuable commodities at an unprecedented rate. The United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration is a chance to help reverse the tide and ensure a prosperous future for humans and wildlife.

This year marks the official initiative of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration on this World Environment Day. It will make a global call for the conservation and revival of habitats around the world, in recognition of the shared benefit for nature and people, in collaboration with Pakistan and through the World Environment Day forum.

You can ultimately lose much more than one species by removing one element. More than 98% of the species in nature are extinct.

World environment day was designed by the UN General Assembly in 1972 on the first day of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. Since 1974 the World Environment Day became the global celebration with the theme “Only One Earth”.

Last year the theme of World Environment Day 2020 was “Celebrate Biodiversity”, hosted in Colombia in Partnership with Germany.

Global citizens have organized many events like:-

Neighborhood Cleanup

Action against Wildlife Crime

Replanting Forest.

Save trees

Major factors that affect our Environment

Air Pollution

Climate change

Global warming

We are a part of nature and yes we are very much dependent on it so start planting trees and save our environment.

Let’s take an oath to protect our nature on this Environment day!!
