2027 Oscars Date Confirmed: Full Awards Season Calendar and Key Dates

2027 Oscars Date Confirmed: Full Awards Season Calendar and Key Dates

The 2027 Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 14, giving Hollywood a firm date for the 99th Academy Awards and setting the final destination for a packed awards season stretching from the fall film festivals through the Golden Globes, BAFTA and major guild ceremonies.

The Academy Awards will begin at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. But before Oscar night arrives, movie fans will see months of shortlists, nominations, voting deadlines and precursor awards that will gradually shape the field.

For viewers trying to keep track, the biggest dates are now clear: Oscar shortlists arrive December 15, 2026, nominations will be announced January 21, 2027, final voting ends March 4, and the ceremony follows March 14.

2027 Oscars date and time

The 99th Academy Awards are scheduled for March 14, 2027.

The live ceremony is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and 4 p.m. PT. The Academy says the show will originate from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and reach audiences in more than 200 territories worldwide.

The date places the Oscars near the middle of March, continuing the recent trend of holding Hollywood’s biggest film awards later than the traditional February window used in some previous years.

Key Oscar dates before the March ceremony

The Academy’s awards calendar begins long before Oscar night.

The final submission deadline for General Entry categories, Animated Feature Film, Best Picture and the Academy’s RAISE form is November 12, 2026. The Governors Awards follow on November 15.

Preliminary Oscar voting begins at 9 a.m. PT on December 7 and closes at 5 p.m. PT on December 11.

The first major Academy reveal comes on December 15, when Oscar shortlists are announced in the categories that use the preliminary voting process.

The eligibility period for the 99th Oscars officially ends on December 31, 2026.

Oscar nominations will be announced January 21

January will mark the point when the awards race shifts from speculation to the official Academy field.

Oscar nomination voting opens at 9 a.m. PT on January 11 and closes at 5 p.m. PT on January 15.

The Academy will announce the 2027 Oscar nominations on Thursday, January 21.

Before that vote, nominating screenings for Casting, Makeup and Hairstyling, Sound and Visual Effects are scheduled for January 8-10.

Readers following the developing race can also revisit Swikblog’s coverage of the early 2027 Oscars contenders, although the official January nominations will ultimately determine who reaches the final stage.

December starts the major awards rush

The Oscar calendar overlaps with several other major organizations beginning in December.

Critics Choice nominations are scheduled for December 4, while the Golden Globe nominations will be announced December 7.

Golden Globe final ballots will be sent to voters on December 18, with voting closing January 2.

The 84th Golden Globes are then scheduled for Sunday, January 10, 2027, beginning at 5 p.m. PT from the Beverly Hilton.

January 2027 will be packed with major awards dates

The Critics Choice Awards are scheduled for January 3, making them one of the first major televised ceremonies of the new year.

BAFTA will publish its Film Awards longlists on January 7, followed by Golden Globes night on January 10.

BAFTA nominations are then due on January 19, just two days before Oscar nominations arrive on January 21.

That compressed calendar means January will provide audiences with a much clearer view of which movies and performances are appearing consistently across different voting bodies.

BAFTA Awards set for February 21

The 2027 EE BAFTA Film Awards will take place Sunday, February 21 in London.

BAFTA’s first voting round begins December 4, with longlists published January 7. Round Two voting then opens the same day, nominations follow January 19 and final-round voting begins January 26.

BAFTA’s final voting closes February 16, five days before the ceremony.

The organization has also made changes for 2027, including expanding the Outstanding British Film longlist from 15 to 20 titles and broadening voting participation in performance categories by involving Casting Chapter members alongside the Acting Chapter.

BAFTA has additionally updated its guidance around generative AI, emphasizing recognition of human creative achievement.

February becomes the final major Oscar proving ground

Several influential industry ceremonies are clustered in the weeks before Oscar voting ends.

The Oscars Nominees Luncheon is scheduled for February 16, followed by the Casting Society Artios Awards on February 18 and the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Awards on February 20.

BAFTA follows February 21.

Oscar final voting opens at 9 a.m. PT on February 25.

The Art Directors Guild Awards and Producers Guild of America Awards are scheduled for February 27, followed by the 33rd SAG Actor Awards on February 28.

The timing makes that final February weekend especially notable because Academy members will already be casting their Oscar ballots.

Results from BAFTA or the guild awards can provide context around the race, but they should not be treated as automatic Oscar predictors because the organizations have different memberships and voting systems.

March 2027 closes the race

Academy members have until 5 p.m. PT on March 4 to submit their final Oscar ballots.

The Cinema Audio Society Awards and Film Independent Spirit Awards are scheduled for March 6, followed by the Motion Picture Sound Editors Awards on March 7.

One week later, the entire season reaches its centerpiece with the 99th Academy Awards on March 14.

The full official schedule can be checked through the Academy’s 99th Oscars calendar, which also notes that announced dates remain subject to change.

Fall film festivals start the conversation months earlier

The road to the Oscars begins well before voting.

The 2026 fall festival calendar includes the Venice International Film Festival from September 2-12, Telluride from September 4-7 and the Toronto International Film Festival from September 10-20.

The New York Film Festival runs from September 25 through October 12, followed by AFI Fest from October 21-25.

These events often serve as important launching platforms for films seeking attention from critics, audiences and awards voters, although festival reception does not guarantee later nominations.

Some awards dates are still being finalized

Not every ceremony on the broader 2027 entertainment calendar has a confirmed date yet.

Schedules for organizations including the Writers Guild of America, American Society of Cinematographers, Visual Effects Society and Costume Designers Guild may continue to be updated as awards season develops.

That distinction is important: a date listed as TBD should not be treated as confirmed until the organization involved formally publishes its schedule.

100th Oscars already set for 2028

The Academy has also announced the date for its landmark centennial ceremony.

The 100th Academy Awards will take place Sunday, March 5, 2028, putting the historic edition earlier in March than the 99th Oscars.

For now, the main dates movie fans need to watch are December 15 for the Oscar shortlists, January 21 for nominations, February 25 for the start of final voting and March 14 for Oscar night itself.
