San Francisco’s linebacker group took another hit in the second quarter at Levi’s Stadium, with Dee Winters forced out after an awkward step-on during a scramble play.

Injury update

Dee Winters: Questionable with an ankle injury (49ers update during the game).

The San Francisco 49ers entered their Week 18 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks already thin at linebacker, and the situation worsened in the second quarter when Dee Winters went down during a scramble by Sam Darnold.

The play unfolded on a 5-yard Darnold run for a first down, when a Seahawks offensive lineman inadvertently stepped on Winters’ leg. Winters immediately looked limited, limped off the field with trainers, and headed straight into the blue medical tent.

At the time of the in-game report, the team had not provided a full diagnosis. The only confirmed update was that Winters was later listed as questionable with an ankle injury.

Why this matters for San Francisco

San Francisco’s linebacker room was already stretched before kickoff. With injuries and inactivity thinning the rotation, Winters’ status became a key storyline as the game moved into the second half.

  • If Winters can’t return, the 49ers will lean on Tatum Bethune, Eric Kendricks, Luke Gifford, and Garret Wallow.
  • Any extended absence could further test defensive depth with January football around the corner.
