The 2026 Brooklyn Half Marathon brought thousands of runners and spectators to New York City on Saturday as nearly 29,000 athletes took part in the annual 13.1-mile race from Prospect Park to the iconic Coney Island boardwalk. The event once again delivered fast finishes, dramatic competition and one of the biggest race atmospheres on the U.S. road running calendar.
Kenya’s Abraham Longosiwa won the men’s race in 1:04:33, narrowly holding off Ryan Kutch in one of the closest finishes of the day. Kutch crossed the line just three seconds later in 1:04:36, while Owen Ritz secured third place in 1:05:41.

Brooklyn Half delivers another major New York running event
The Brooklyn Half Marathon has become one of the most anticipated races in the city’s running calendar, combining elite-level competition with mass participation. This year’s edition continued that trend as runners filled the streets from the early morning start inside Prospect Park all the way to the finish along the waterfront at Coney Island.
The course itself remains one of the race’s defining features. Athletes begin with rolling sections inside the park before moving onto long stretches that test pacing and endurance. The final miles toward Coney Island often become decisive, especially when elite runners remain tightly grouped late in the race.
That was exactly the case in the men’s competition. Longosiwa and Kutch remained close through the closing stages before Longosiwa managed to separate himself just enough to secure victory. A three-second margin over 13.1 miles highlighted how competitive the race remained until the finish line.
Owen Ritz finished third with a time of 1:05:41, while Maxwell Etka placed fourth in 1:05:48. Evan Sherman rounded out the top five in exactly 1:06:00.
The remainder of the men’s top 10 included:
- Jaouad El Jazouli — 1:06:27
- Devin Desouza — 1:07:19
- George Miao — 1:07:22
- Borgar Norrud — 1:07:29
- John Bleday — 1:07:40
The women’s race was equally competitive near the front. Alanis controlled the pace over the second half of the course, but Groner remained close throughout. Madison Offstein also stayed within striking distance as the top three women all finished within 44 seconds of each other.
Kidan Kidane finished fourth in 1:14:45, followed by Fabiana Lafuente Pochettino in 1:15:07. Sarah Chandler, Anastasia Dmitrienko, Alosha Southern, Victoria Sivco and Alexia Duquesne completed the women’s top 10.
The full women’s top 10 results were:

Strong turnout highlights growing popularity of road racing
The turnout of nearly 29,000 runners reflected the continued growth of road racing events across the United States, particularly in major cities like New York. Events such as the Brooklyn Half attract both elite athletes and recreational runners chasing personal records or milestone finishes.
Large crowds also lined several sections of the course, especially near the Coney Island finish area where runners completed the race on the famous boardwalk. The combination of city scenery, fast competition and community support has helped the Brooklyn Half become one of the country’s best-known half marathons.
In the nonbinary category, Danica Reinicke delivered one of the strongest performances of the division with a winning time of 1:18:21. Jacob Caswell finished second in 1:21:01, followed by J Solle in 1:22:45 and Truth Bachman in 1:24:30.
