MELBOURNE — Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Daniel Hussein at a reserve in Thomastown, with the person responsible yet to be apprehended.

Hussein was shot at HR Uren Reserve in Melbourne’s northern suburbs at about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 6. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but despite attempts to save him, he died there.
Relatives have since identified the victim as Daniel Hussein, a young plumber who was engaged to be married and had recently bought a house.
The shooting happened on Father’s Day in Australia and has left Hussein’s family and people living around the reserve devastated.
What happened to Daniel Hussein in Thomastown?
According to ABC News, Hussein was with friends at HR Uren Reserve when he was shot on Sunday evening.
Paramedics attempted to revive the 22-year-old as friends, relatives and other people gathered nearby, but he could not be saved.
Victoria Police Homicide Squad detectives are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Police believe Hussein may have been involved in a confrontation with one or more people in the reserve car park shortly before the shooting.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed what may have led to that confrontation, and investigators have not announced an arrest.
The shooting occurred near the Lalor Soccer Club. Junior matches had been held at the club earlier in the day, but the club has said the shooting was not connected to it.
Daniel Hussein was engaged and had bought a house
As the homicide investigation continues, Hussein’s family has spoken about the life the 22-year-old was building before his death.
His brother told ABC that Hussein was engaged to be married and had already bought a house, saying the young plumber had his entire future ahead of him.
The family also rejected any suggestion that Hussein was involved in criminal activity. His brother said Hussein had gone to the park to help a friend.
Hussein’s uncle, Abdallah Hussein, also shared an emotional tribute on social media, describing the enormous grief caused by his nephew’s death.
Neighbours around the reserve have meanwhile described being shaken by the shooting, with a large group of people gathering near the scene in its aftermath.
Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was around HR Uren Reserve or the surrounding Thomastown area at the time and may have witnessed suspicious activity.
Police are also seeking dashcam or CCTV footage that could help establish what happened before and after Hussein was shot.
