Nintendo Direct September 2026

Nintendo Direct September 2026 Live: New Switch 2 Games and Announcements

Nintendo’s September 9 Direct is delivering fresh Switch 2 announcements, including the newly revealed Kirby and the World Beyond and a free Mario Kart World update arriving later today. The roughly 45-minute presentation is mixing new games, release windows and updates as Nintendo builds out its Switch 2 calendar beyond the 2026 holiday season.

The Direct began at 7 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. ET / 3 p.m. BST / 4 p.m. CEST, or 7:30 p.m. IST in India. Nintendo billed the event primarily around Switch 2 games launching this winter, although the Kirby announcement has already extended the roadmap into Spring 2027.

Nintendo Direct — Latest

Platform: Nintendo Switch 2
NEW: Kirby and the World Beyond — Spring 2027
NEW: Mario Kart World free update — September 9
Mario Kart: 10 classic courses + two Knockout Tour routes

Kirby and the World Beyond announced for Spring 2027

One of the biggest new-game reveals is Kirby and the World Beyond, with a Spring 2027 release window announced during the Direct.

The reveal pushes Nintendo’s Switch 2 roadmap beyond the winter period that dominated the presentation’s pre-show billing. Footage accompanying the announcement shows Kirby exploring a colorful new environment, giving players their first look at the upcoming adventure.

A specific release date has not yet been announced. More information about its gameplay systems, story and other features is expected as Nintendo moves closer to the Spring 2027 window.

Mario Kart World gets 10 classic courses today

Mario Kart World is also receiving a substantial free update later on September 9, confirming that Nintendo had more content ready for one of Switch 2’s biggest games.

Nintendo says the update adds 10 classic courses from Super Mario Kart to VS Race mode. Players will also get two new Knockout Tour routes.

The announcement is especially notable because additional Mario Kart World content had been part of the speculation surrounding the Direct. That speculation can now be replaced with confirmed details: the update is free and scheduled to arrive later today.

Switch 2 winter games remain the main focus

Despite the Spring 2027 Kirby reveal, Nintendo’s stated focus for the Direct remains Switch 2 games launching this winter. That makes release dates and near-term gameplay announcements particularly important for players planning their holiday purchases.

Viewers can follow the presentation through Nintendo’s YouTube channels or the official Nintendo Direct page.

Mario Kart confirmed, other rumors still need caution

Before the broadcast, speculation included additional Mario Kart World content alongside possible announcements involving Mario and Metroid.

The Mario Kart part has now become reality, but other rumored games should not automatically be treated as confirmed. Unless Nintendo reveals them during the presentation, talk of a new 3D Mario or 2D Metroid game remains speculation.

More game announcements could reshape the lineup

The Direct’s mix of Kirby and Mario Kart news shows Nintendo is not limiting the event to completely new games. Updates for existing titles, new releases and games extending into 2027 can all share the stage.

That makes the remaining announcements worth watching for firm release dates, surprise first-party projects and third-party Switch 2 games rather than focusing only on one rumored franchise.

Treehouse Live follows the Direct

Nintendo will continue its September 9 coverage with Nintendo Treehouse: Live after the main presentation. The follow-up is designed to provide extended gameplay from selected titles featured during the Direct.

That gives players an opportunity to see more than short reveal trailers, including closer looks at gameplay mechanics, controls, exploration and other features from selected games.

Nintendo’s second major showcase in two days

The Switch 2 Direct follows Nintendo’s Zelda 40th anniversary presentation just one day earlier. Nintendo divided its September announcements across two Nintendo Direct showcases on September 8 and September 9, giving Zelda and the wider Switch 2 lineup separate stages.

One of the biggest Zelda announcements was the November 5 release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2, alongside anniversary hardware and accessories.

For Switch 2 owners, the September 9 presentation is now becoming less about what Nintendo might reveal and more about the expanding release calendar. Kirby and the World Beyond is set for Spring 2027, while Mario Kart World players are getting new content today — and further announcements from the Direct could add more games and dates to that lineup.
