Sorba Thomas Car Crash: Hull City Winger Unhurt After Land Rover Flips

Hull City winger Sorba Thomas escaped without injury after his Land Rover Defender overturned near the Premier League club’s training ground in Cottingham on Friday morning.

Dramatic photographs circulating online showed the grey vehicle lying on its roof on Millhouse Woods Lane, a residential road close to Hull City’s training facilities. Several windows appeared damaged, while debris could be seen around the vehicle.

The crash was reported at around 9am on Friday, September 11. Police officers and firefighters attended the scene, and Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirović was also reportedly seen near the overturned vehicle.

Hull City confirms Sorba Thomas was unharmed

Hull City moved quickly to reassure supporters after images from the scene began spreading across social media.

“Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground.”

The club added that the 27-year-old had “sustained no injuries” and emerged from the vehicle “completely unscathed.”

The Independent reported that Thomas remained available to travel with the Hull squad for Saturday’s Premier League match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Humberside Police confirmed that emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on Millhouse Woods Lane. The road was temporarily closed while crews worked at the scene and officers began examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police asked motorists to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to operate safely. No information had been released about another vehicle being involved, and authorities had not publicly established what caused Thomas’s vehicle to overturn.

Images from the scene showed the Defender partly across the roadway and pavement. Despite the condition of the vehicle, there were no reports of Thomas requiring hospital treatment.

Who is Sorba Thomas?

Thomas joined Hull City from Stoke City on transfer-deadline day, signing a four-year contract that runs until the summer of 2030. Hull officially described the transfer fee as undisclosed, although media reports have placed the deal between ÂŁ7 million and ÂŁ10 million.

The Wales international made his Premier League debut from the bench during Hull’s goalless draw against Aston Villa. He later played the full match in the Tigers’ EFL Cup fixture against Sunderland.

Before joining Hull, Thomas impressed in the Championship with Stoke, recording 10 goals and 13 assists during the 2025–26 campaign. His performances reportedly earned him Stoke’s Player of the Year award and recognition in the Championship Team of the Year.

The winger began his career in West Ham United’s academy before rebuilding his career with non-league club Boreham Wood. His performances there earned him a move to Huddersfield Town, where he established himself in the English Football League.

Thomas subsequently had loan spells with Blackburn Rovers and French club Nantes before moving permanently to Stoke City in 2025. He has represented Wales internationally and was part of the country’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Jakirović praised the winger before the crash, highlighting his speed, delivery, set-piece ability and defensive discipline. The Hull manager said Thomas could operate as a conventional left winger or move inside as a left-sided attacking midfielder.

Hull entered the weekend unbeaten following their return to the Premier League. Thomas is expected to remain under consideration for the Chelsea fixture, although the club will make the final squad decision after assessing him following Friday’s accident.

The incident comes during a busy period in English football, with attention also focused on Chelsea’s latest team and injury developments and reports surrounding a possible Liverpool shirt sponsorship agreement with Turkish Airlines.

This is a developing story. Details about the cause of the crash will be updated if Humberside Police or Hull City releases further information.
