Officers subsequently stopped a vehicle in Darras Hall. In a statement reproduced by AOL, police confirmed that they seized a bow and arrows and understood the equipment to be for recreational use.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said:

“Shortly after 1.55pm on Wednesday, we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area.

“Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows. At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public. Enquiries are ongoing.”

According to talkSPORT, citing the Daily Mail, six police vehicles were deployed, including marked and unmarked cars, with some armed response officers attending.

Dedić and his companion were reportedly questioned about seven miles from the reservoir. Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and former defender Paul Dummett happened to be nearby and offered assistance while officers spoke to the pair.

The Daily Mail also reported that Newcastle were not expected to take disciplinary action against Dedić. That remains a reported club position rather than a public statement from the club.

Who is Amar Dedić?

Dedić, 24, joined Newcastle from Benfica during the summer transfer window in a deal reportedly worth £30 million. According to the Mirror, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international has made 10 appearances in all competitions, contributing four assists.

According to Newcastle’s official player profile, he joined Red Bull Salzburg’s academy aged 13 and later played for Liefering, Wolfsberger AC and Marseille before moving to Portugal.

The right-back won the Austrian Bundesliga with Salzburg in 2022/23 and captained the club during the following season. His Newcastle move reunited him with head coach Matthias Jaissle, who had previously handed him his Champions League debut.
