Chipotle customers can get a free entrée on Thursday, August 20, as the chain brings a buy-one-get-one offer to participating U.S. restaurants for back-to-school season. The School Spirit BOGO begins at 3 p.m. local time and runs until closing, but customers must wear qualifying school apparel or accessories to participate.
Today’s promotion is an in-restaurant-only deal. Mobile, online, delivery and catering orders do not qualify, and there is no promo code required for the August 20 offer.
How to get the Chipotle BOGO today
Customers should visit a participating U.S. Chipotle after 3 p.m. local time wearing school-related clothing or accessories. Qualifying gear can include school colors, T-shirts, sweatshirts, jerseys, hats and other school apparel representing a middle school, high school or college.
The restaurant determines whether a customer’s apparel or accessory qualifies, so wearing something that clearly represents a school is the safest approach.
An eligible customer can purchase one entrée and receive another qualifying entrée free. The purchased entrée must be of equal or greater value than the complimentary entrée.
There is a limit of five free entrées per check. Each BOGO redemption must be accompanied by a qualifying customer wearing eligible school gear. The promotion is subject to availability and is limited to participating U.S. restaurants.
Customers planning a visit can review Chipotle’s official School Spirit BOGO details for the promotion’s terms and eligibility information.
Can you use the Chipotle BOGO online?
No. The August 20 School Spirit BOGO must be redeemed inside a participating Chipotle restaurant. Orders made through the Chipotle app or website, delivery orders and catering purchases are excluded.
Customers can earn Chipotle Rewards points on eligible items they purchase, but the School Spirit BOGO generally cannot be combined with other coupons, promotions or special offers.
The school-attire promotion is part of a broader pattern of limited-time offers from the chain. Earlier in 2026, customers had opportunities to claim rewards through the Chipotle Burrito Vault 2026 promotion, which included free burrito prizes and BOGO offers.
Three Chipotle Sundays deals are coming next
Customers who miss today’s School Spirit BOGO will have three additional opportunities for a free entrĂ©e, although the rules will be different. Chipotle Sundays will run on August 23, August 30 and September 6 at participating restaurants in the United States and Canada.
After 3 p.m. local time on those Sundays, customers must order through the Chipotle app or website and purchase at least two regular entrées. Using promo code SUNDAYS provides one additional regular entrée free, with the lowest-priced qualifying entrée receiving the discount.
Qualifying regular entrĂ©es include a burrito, burrito bowl, three-taco order, salad or quesadilla. Single tacos and kids’ meals do not count toward the required entrĂ©e purchases.
Extra protein, guacamole, Queso Blanco and other paid modifiers are not included in the value of the complimentary item. Third-party delivery orders are also excluded from the Sunday promotion.
The difference is important: the August 20 BOGO requires an in-person order and school gear, while Chipotle Sundays requires a digital order and the SUNDAYS promo code.
Chipotle also connected an earlier BOGO promotion to soccer fandom, when customers wearing jerseys could participate during a broader lineup of FIFA World Cup 2026 food deals.
Chick-fil-A Chicken & Waffles Arrive August 24: What to Know
August 20 is also the last day for Chipotle IQ
Thursday is also the final day for eligible Chipotle Rewards members in the U.S. and Canada to play Chipotle IQ, a trivia game testing knowledge of the chain’s ingredients, culinary techniques, community engagement and other topics.
Available prizes include BOGO free entrĂ©e codes, free Cilantro Lime Sauce offers, free Queso Blanco offers and Chipotle Rewards points. The IQ promotion is separate from today’s School Spirit BOGO, so its eligibility and redemption conditions are different.
College students have another rewards option
Eligible college students can also register for Chipotle U Rewards and verify their student status through ID.me. Chipotle says verified students receive 1,000 bonus points after signing up and can earn 20% more points on purchases.
For customers interested in today’s free entrĂ©e, the key steps are simple: arrive at a participating U.S. restaurant after 3 p.m. and before closing, wear clearly identifiable school gear, order inside the restaurant and purchase an entrĂ©e of equal or greater value than the one received free.
Groups should remember the maximum of five free entrĂ©es per check and the qualifying-school-gear requirement associated with each BOGO redemption. Since participation and availability can vary, customers may also want to confirm their local restaurant’s hours before making the trip.
