Registration for the DELF exam closes on Feb. 27. Students in the Simcoe County District School Board can challenge the internationally recognized Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française to certify their French proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing.
What the DELF exam is
The DELF is a diploma issued by the French Ministry for National Education. It is designed for learners whose first language is not French and is recognized worldwide. DELF results are valid for life, making it a long-term credential for study and future opportunities.
Who can register through SCDSB
In SCDSB secondary schools, the DELF exam is available to eligible students enrolled in the Grade 12 French as a Second Language course. Students, with guidance from their teacher, choose the CEFR level that best matches their proficiency: A2, B1, or B2.
Exam dates
SCDSB DELF exams will be held between April 13 and April 22. Only students enrolled in FSF4U or FIF4U during Semester 2 are eligible to register for the April exam session.
What the DELF assesses
The DELF evaluates language skills in four key areas: oral comprehension, oral expression, written comprehension, and written expression. The exam is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, helping students benchmark their level using an internationally recognized standard.
Why students take the DELF
For many learners, the DELF is a practical way to document French proficiency for future academic and career pathways. A certified language credential can support applications for programs, scholarships, work placements, and bilingual opportunities. At higher levels, the credential can also help meet language requirements for admission to universities in France and some French-speaking universities in Canada.
