Denver, Colorado — Denver Fire Department crews are battling a three-alarm fire at a large apartment complex under construction near Leetsdale Drive and South Forest Street, prompting evacuation orders and road closures in the surrounding area.

Fire officials said the structure was unoccupied at the time of the blaze. Crews urged residents to stay away from the area as flames and heavy smoke spread through the unfinished building.

Several residents and passersby captured videos as emergency responders arrived. One witness said they came upon the scene just as firefighters were pulling in, describing the situation as frightening but expressing relief that no residents were living in the building.

Another observer shared footage showing flames shooting through multiple sections of the structure, with thick smoke visible from miles away. Drivers passing through the area recorded long lines of emergency vehicles and powerful water streams directed at the burning complex.

Officials issued mandatory evacuation notices covering nearby residential blocks, including multi-family housing. According to shared alerts, evacuation messages were sent directly to cell phones in the area during the early evening hours.

Some residents reported that embers from the fire were carried by the wind, raising concerns about additional fires. Social media posts noted cinders landing near nearby streets and open areas, while firefighters focused on preventing the blaze from spreading further.

Denver Fire Department later confirmed that no injuries had been reported as crews continued suppression efforts and monitored the scene for hot spots. The cause of the fire has not yet been announced and remains under investigation.
