Two pedestrians have been killed and four other people seriously injured after a Mitsubishi pickup struck a group of people before colliding with two cars on White Rose Way in Doncaster.
The collision happened at about 11am on Sunday, 13 September 2026, between Carriage Drive and Middle Bank Roundabout. Six people were killed or injured across the sequence of collisions, although police have not confirmed that all six were pedestrians.
South Yorkshire Police said a black Mitsubishi L200 was travelling along the carriageway when it collided with a group of four pedestrians. It was then involved in further collisions with a black Audi and a silver BMW travelling on the opposite side of the carriageway.
Police have not yet released a detailed reconstruction of the Mitsubishi’s movements. However, the reported sequence indicates that the pickup came into the path of traffic travelling in the opposite direction after the pedestrians were struck.
Police officers, ambulance crews and an air ambulance were sent to the scene. Despite attempts by emergency workers to save them, two pedestrians were pronounced dead at the roadside.
Four other people were transported to hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening. Authorities have not disclosed whether all four were pedestrians or whether the number includes people travelling in the vehicles.
Driver arrested and released on bail
The 30-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi was arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit.
He has since been released on bail pending further inquiries. Police have not announced that he has been charged with an offence.
An arrest on suspicion of an offence does not establish guilt. Investigators can release a person on bail while evidence is examined and further inquiries are completed.
Police have not explained what led to the suspicion that the driver was unfit. No confirmed information has been released about the possible involvement of alcohol, drugs, a medical condition or any other factor, and it would be premature to draw conclusions while the investigation remains active.
The identities and ages of the two people who died had not been made public in the latest official update. Police said they were working to identify the victims and inform their next of kin.
White Rose Way was closed in both directions for more than 12 hours as emergency crews attended to the casualties and investigators examined the scene. The road has since reopened.
The lengthy closure would have allowed specialist officers to record the positions of the vehicles, document physical evidence and begin establishing the sequence of events. Police have not yet published any findings about the cause of the collision.
Police seek witnesses and vehicle footage
Investigators want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the black Mitsubishi L200 shortly before it happened. They are particularly interested in recordings from vehicles travelling through the White Rose Way area at around 11am on Sunday.
Footage does not necessarily have to show the collision itself to be useful. Recordings made shortly beforehand may help officers establish the Mitsubishi’s route, its movements and the traffic conditions in the area.
Anyone with information can call 101 or use the official South Yorkshire Police appeal page, which also provides a facility for submitting relevant footage.
Information should be provided under incident number 345 of 13 September 2026. The collision has also been covered by Sky News, although the police appeal remains the authoritative source for witness submissions and confirmed case updates.
Several details remain under investigation, including the precise movement of the Mitsubishi, the circumstances that led to the collisions and whether any of the four injured people remain in hospital.
