Auckland’s most beloved Christmas tradition is rolling back into the city centre today, turning Queen Street into a ribbon of colour, characters and marching music. The Farmers Santa Parade Auckland 2025 is expected to draw tens of thousands into the CBD — and if you’re heading in, this is your fast, no-fluff guide to times, closures, transport and the best spots to watch.
⏰ Start time & schedule (today)
- Pre-parade entertainment: from 12:00 pm
- Parade start: 1:00 pm
- After-party: 2:30–5:00 pm at Aotea Square
📍 Route snapshot
The procession runs from Mayoral Drive, flows down Queen Street and finishes near Customs Street East / Britomart. Expect around an hour for the parade to pass any single point.
For the official route map and event updates, see the parade organisers here: santaparade.co.nz.
🚧 Road closures (read before you leave)
Staged road closures are in place across the city centre from late morning through mid-afternoon. Driving directly into the CBD is rarely worth the queueing — public transport is the move.
Extra services and live advisories are provided by Auckland Transport. Check before you go for last-minute changes to buses, trains or ferries.
🚌 Getting there the easy way
- Train & ferry beat buses once closures begin.
- If you must drive, park on the edge of the city (Newmarket, Parnell, Victoria Park) and walk or train in.
- Arrive before midday if you want stress-free viewing.
👀 Best places to stand (with kids)
- Mayoral Drive (Cook St → Queen St): wider pavements, more breathing room.
- Customs Street East: easy escape to Britomart after.
- Lower Queen Street (north end): the grand finish, quicker dispersal.
Tip: Bring a light blanket to “claim” space for little ones from 12:15 pm.
🎉 After the floats: Aotea Square
When Santa’s sleigh disappears into the distance, the party continues at Aotea Square with shows, rides and festive food stalls — family-friendly and free until early evening.
🎒 What to take
- Sun hat + sunscreen (it’s Auckland, after all)
- Reusable bottles
- Snacks for kids
- Portable phone charger
- Light jacket for shade or breeze
- Ear protection for toddlers (bands can be loud)
🌧️ Rain plan
If weather intervenes, the reserve date is the following Sunday. Check the official site on the morning of the event.
