Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Reviews Are In — Switch 2 Epic Can Take 130 Hours

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026, and early reviews suggest players are getting one of the biggest Fire Emblem adventures yet. Reviewers who pursued all four major hero routes reported playthroughs stretching to around 130 hours, although the game does not require everyone to clear every path or optional activity.

The new strategy RPG combines classic grid-based battles with four interconnected stories, character recruitment, free-time activities, open-map exploration, dungeons and a three-part campaign that eventually brings separately developed armies together.

That scale is winning praise, but it also creates the biggest criticism so far: players trying to see everything should expect repetition and a major time commitment.

The Heroic Games start a much bigger story

Fortune’s Weave moves between two points in Dagda’s history.

In 1449, the capital Dagsion hosts the Heroic Games, where Emperor Solel promises one wish to the winner. Five years later, in 1454, the demon god Balor has returned and four heroes connected to the tournament are missing.

The customizable protagonist works with the goddess Fortuna, using her time-travel powers to revisit the past, change those heroes’ fates and build a stronger force for the final battle.

Cai, Dietrich, Theodora and Leda lead four routes

The four central heroes have very different motivations.

Cai wants to save his imprisoned father. Dietrich is a battle-driven swordsman from Fódlan. Theodora is the young queen of Saramis, while musician Leda is pursuing revenge after the destruction of her home and the death of her father.

Players are not locked into one route. Progress is retained as they move between different hero stories, allowing characters, classes and recruits developed across those paths to matter later.

Fortune’s Weave connects to Three Houses

The game also shares its world with Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

Fortune’s Weave shifts the setting from Fódlan to Dagda, the continent to its south. Intelligent Systems has given the region a different identity, drawing on ancient Mediterranean influences and environments including coastlines, deserts and rainforests.

The campaign grows far beyond the tournament

The adventure is built around three major parts.

The opening section follows the Heroic Games. A second phase continues each hero’s story through a war, while heroes and allies successfully developed during those campaigns can later join the final push against Balor and his undead forces.

Part Three expands the strategy further by letting players manage multiple squads across the map, turning earlier recruitment and character-building decisions into long-term advantages.

Dagsion gives players plenty to do between battles

Between major fights, players can explore Dagsion, train skills, improve weapons, recruit allies, complete quests and share meals to build relationships.

A calendar counts down toward major story events, so free time becomes another resource to manage. Exploration later expands across Dagda, with skirmishes, resource gathering and dungeons offering more opportunities to strengthen the army.

Class progression also runs deep, with characters able to develop specialized roles rather than following a single fixed path.

Fire Emblem combat remains the main attraction

The core battles still use turn-based, grid-based strategy, with positioning, unit classes, weapons, magic and team composition all playing a major role.

Combat Arts trade weapon durability for stronger or specialized attacks, while the main heroes have unique Blaze Arts. Cai can strike across an area, Dietrich specializes in fast repositioning and Leda can use music to support allies.

Fortuna’s Blessing also allows players to rewind a battle after a bad move, giving them another chance to save a unit or change tactics.

Dungeons are one of the early sticking points

Not every battle uses the traditional tactical grid. Dungeons switch to smaller, turn-based RPG encounters focused on exploration, resources and character growth.

Reviews have identified these sections as one of the more repetitive parts of the game, particularly when completing several hero routes. An auto-battle option can speed up some of those encounters.

The 130-hour figure needs context

The Verge’s reviewer spent roughly 100 hours completing all four hero routes through the first two parts before finishing the full adventure at around 130 hours.

Game Informer similarly reported a playthrough exceeding 130 hours while still leaving some scenes and events unseen.

That does not mean every player will need 130 hours. The figure reflects a deep, completion-focused run through multiple interconnected routes rather than a fixed minimum.

Reviews praise the ambition but flag repetition

Early reviews consistently praise the arena battles, character development, class customization and the payoff of eventually combining independently developed squads.

The downside is repetition. Completing every path can mean revisiting quests, locations, cutscenes and battlefields, while later multi-squad management adds more micromanagement.

The game even includes an unusual relationship-building activity known as Bird Time, where the protagonist interacts with other characters while transformed into a bird.

Release date, price and download size

According to Nintendo’s official Fortune’s Weave listing, the game launches September 17, 2026 exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 with an estimated 29.5GB digital file size.

The standard US edition is listed at $69.99, while the $119.99 Dagdan Collection adds a steel game case, character art cards, a map of Dagda and an artbook.

The release follows the latest Nintendo Direct September 2026 Switch 2 announcements and joins other major upcoming releases such as Metroid Ravenous for Switch 2.

For Fire Emblem fans, Fortune’s Weave looks designed to reward players who want to experiment with different heroes, builds and armies for dozens of hours. The early reviews suggest the tactical payoff is strong, but anyone planning to chase every route should expect a very long campaign.
