FORT WORTH, Texas â Federal and local authorities are investigating after a small aircraft crashed near Hicks Airfield in Fort Worth on Wednesday morning, October 7.
The crash happened at about 9:50 a.m. near the Bonds Ranch Road area, according to FOX 4, citing Fort Worth police and the Federal Aviation Administration.
The FAA identified the aircraft as a Lancair IV-P and confirmed that only the pilot was aboard.
The pilot’s condition had not been publicly confirmed in the latest information available.
First responders reported that the aircraft was âfully involvedâ when crews arrived, and officials also reported downed wires in the area.
Aerial images from the scene showed the badly damaged aircraft in a grassy area beside the roadway, with emergency vehicles surrounding the crash site.
Traffic affected around West Bonds Ranch Road
WFAA reported that the intersection of West Bonds Ranch Road and Blue Sky Drive was closed while crews worked at the scene and investigators examined the wreckage.
Drivers in the area faced disruption as emergency personnel secured the crash site and dealt with debris and utility hazards.
As of the latest check, however, authorities had not issued a publicly confirmed time for when all crash-related restrictions would be lifted.
The Bonds Ranch Road corridor is also undergoing separate long-term transportation work. The City of Fort Worth says sections of Bonds Ranch Road are being widened and upgraded as part of a major road improvement project.
Drivers traveling through the area should therefore expect the possibility of delays and follow instructions from police or road crews near the crash scene.
FAA and NTSB investigation underway
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to investigate the crash.
No cause has been announced.
Authorities have also not publicly confirmed the aircraft’s registration number, where the flight originated, its intended destination or whether the pilot reported an emergency before the crash.
There were no passengers aboard, according to the FAA.
Officials have not announced any confirmed injuries involving people on the ground.
The investigation remains active, and additional information is expected once authorities identify the aircraft and establish what happened during the final moments of the flight.
This is a developing story and will be updated when Fort Worth authorities, the FAA or NTSB release additional confirmed information.
