GTA 6 Extended Look Announced: Netflix Gets First Premiere

Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, giving subscribers a six-hour head start before the presentation becomes available through Rockstar’s public channels.

The GTA 6 showcase will begin on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET. It will then launch on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET on the same day.

Netflix describes the arrangement as a first-of-its-kind partnership with Rockstar. It gives the streaming platform temporary exclusivity over one of 2026’s most closely watched gaming reveals while ensuring people without a Netflix subscription can watch it free later that evening.

The announcement arrives less than three months before GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar released a short teaser alongside the news, but it has not disclosed the presentation’s runtime or provided a detailed list of what it will contain.

What Rockstar has confirmed about the August 27 showcase

Rockstar is calling the event an “Extended Look,” rather than Trailer 3 or an official gameplay demonstration. That distinction is important because reports describing it as a confirmed gameplay reveal go beyond the wording used by the company.

The showcase may include gameplay, story sequences, locations or explanations of key systems, but none of those elements has been individually promised. Players will need to wait until August 27 to learn whether the presentation offers uninterrupted gameplay or a broader cinematic overview.

GTA 6 returns to Vice City and expands into the fictional state of Leonida. Its story follows Jason and Lucia, who are pulled into a criminal conspiracy after an apparently straightforward score goes wrong. Forced into an increasingly dangerous situation, the pair must rely on each other to survive.

The game arrives 13 years after Grand Theft Auto V first launched in 2013. That long gap helps explain why every GTA 6 trailer and announcement has attracted intense attention, although the development timeline should not be confused with a confirmed 13 years of uninterrupted production.

The August event also marks a clear change in Rockstar’s marketing strategy. Previous major GTA reveals were distributed broadly through YouTube and the company’s website. Giving Netflix a timed window turns the presentation into a scheduled entertainment premiere rather than a conventional trailer upload.

The latest announcement follows Rockstar’s earlier rollout of the game’s visual identity and purchase campaign. The GTA 6 cover artwork and pre-order announcement offered an earlier look at how the company was preparing for the final months before release.

Pricing, platforms and what the Netflix deal means

GTA 6 pre-orders opened in June, with the Standard Edition priced at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition listed at $99.99. Rockstar says the more expensive edition includes a collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and other content connected to the game.

Some physical packages may contain a digital download code rather than a disc, so buyers should examine the format listed by their retailer before ordering. The debate over whether GTA 6 could push blockbuster games toward higher prices had already intensified before Rockstar confirmed the editions, as explored in the earlier analysis of GTA VI pricing expectations and the $100 game debate.

Rockstar currently describes the launch product as a single-player experience and has not announced a new GTA Online mode. Multiplayer may eventually become part of the wider GTA 6 ecosystem, but its features, availability and release timing remain unconfirmed.

A PC edition has not received a release date either. The confirmed November launch applies to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, meaning PC players should treat unofficial release windows as speculation until Rockstar provides an update.

For Netflix, the six-hour exclusive supports its wider effort to become a destination for gaming-related entertainment. For Rockstar, the partnership creates a global appointment-viewing event without permanently restricting the footage behind a subscription.

The most important unanswered question is what “Extended Look” means in practice. Rockstar could use the presentation to clarify exploration, missions, combat, driving or the relationship between Jason and Lucia, but expectations should remain tied to confirmed information rather than online assumptions.

Official schedules, platform details and future announcements can be checked on the Grand Theft Auto VI website.
