Jetstar has opened a short 48-hour “Return for FREE” sale, giving travellers a fresh chance to book cheaper domestic and international trips across its network. The offer, launched for the airline’s 22nd birthday, includes more than 75,000 free return fares across over 80 routes.
The sale is likely to attract strong interest because it covers both popular Australian city breaks and overseas destinations such as Bali, Phuket, Seoul and Japan. For travellers planning ahead, the deal could make 2026 and 2027 holidays more affordable — provided they move quickly and understand the terms.
Under the offer, customers who buy an outbound Starter fare can receive the return base fare for free. That does not mean the entire return ticket costs nothing. Taxes, fees and optional extras such as checked baggage, seat selection and meals may still apply.
Jetstar Return for FREE Sale: dates, access and travel window
Club Jetstar members were given early access from midday AEST on 4 May 2026, before the sale opened to the general public at midnight. The promotion is scheduled to end at midnight AEST on 6 May 2026, unless the available fares sell out earlier.
The travel periods vary by route. Domestic sale fares are available for select dates from mid-January to late February 2027, while international travel dates run across selected periods from mid-June 2026 to mid-March 2027.
One important condition is that travellers must return to the same airport pairing used for the outbound trip. In other words, the free return fare applies when the arrival and departure airports match the eligible route conditions.
Domestic starter fares begin from $64. Some of the listed routes include Adelaide to Melbourne Avalon from $64, Sydney to Ballina Byron from $86, Brisbane to Newcastle from $105, Gold Coast to Sydney from $112, Canberra to Gold Coast from $120, Brisbane to Cairns from $139, Melbourne Tullamarine to Hervey Bay from $149 and Perth to Sydney from $289.
International fares start from $249, with Perth to Bali Denpasar from $249, Darwin to Bali from $269, Melbourne Avalon to Bali from $289, Cairns to Osaka Kansai from $429, Sydney to Phuket from $459, Brisbane to Seoul Incheon from $469 and Brisbane to Tokyo Narita from $559.
Why this Jetstar sale is getting attention
The biggest attraction is the headline saving. Return flight costs can make a holiday much more expensive, especially for families or travellers booking international trips. By removing the return base fare, Jetstar is giving price-sensitive customers a reason to lock in travel earlier than usual.
The timing also matters. Many Australians are already looking ahead to winter escapes, school holiday planning and 2027 trips. Routes to Bali, Japan, Thailand and South Korea tend to draw strong demand, so limited sale seats on these destinations may disappear quickly.
Jetstar has also been expanding parts of its network, including routes that connect more regional and leisure markets. That gives the sale wider appeal beyond the usual capital-city-to-capital-city travel crowd.
According to Jetstar’s deals page, sale fares are subject to availability and conditions, so travellers should check the final price before payment. The cheapest advertised fare may not reflect the full amount once taxes, card fees, baggage or other extras are added.
For the best chance of finding value, travellers should compare several dates, avoid adding extras they do not need, and check whether flying from an alternative nearby airport creates a better price. Flexible travellers are likely to benefit most from this sale, especially on international routes where the saving on the return base fare can be more noticeable.
The deal is best suited to people who already have a destination in mind and can travel within the listed windows. Anyone booking mainly because of the “free return” label should still review the final fare carefully, because optional extras can quickly reduce the saving.
With more than 75,000 free return fares available for only 48 hours, the sale gives Jetstar a strong promotional moment and gives travellers another reason to book ahead. The most popular routes are expected to face the heaviest demand before the offer closes on 6 May 2026.
