Kargil Vijay Diwas 2025 will be observed on 26th July 2025, marking 26 years of India’s victory in the Kargil War, also known as Operation Vijay. This historic day commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of our Indian soldiers who fought valiantly against Pakistani intruders in 1999.
On July 26, 1999, after nearly 60 days of intense high-altitude warfare, Indian Armed Forces successfully reclaimed the strategic outposts in Kargil, Jammu & Kashmir. Since then, Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated annually to honor the Kargil War heroes and their unmatched courage.
Kargil War Memorial – A Tribute to Martyrs
To pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War, the Indian Army established the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh. Located at the actual war site, the memorial bears the names of over 500 brave soldiers and stands as a symbol of Indian military strength and patriotism.
Kargil Vijay Diwas 2025 Celebrations: Schedule and Events
The Indian Army has planned a series of commemorative events in Delhi and Dras, Jammu & Kashmir, to observe Kargil Vijay Diwas 2025.
- Celebration Start Date: 25th July 2025 in New Delhi
- Conclusion: 27th July 2025 at the Kargil War Memorial, Dras
- Victory Flame Procession: Beginning from the National War Memorial on 14th July, the Victory Flame will travel through 11 cities and towns before merging with the Eternal Flame in Dras on 26th July.
🏃 Kargil Victory Run 2025 in Delhi
To salute the valiant soldiers of the Indian Army, the Kargil Victory Run 2025 will be held on 22nd July in New Delhi.
- Start Point: Vijay Chowk
- End Point: India Gate
- Time: 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM
The objective of this run is to raise nationalistic spirit and awareness among the youth about the sacrifices made by our armed forces.
Operation Vijay – India’s Historic Military Victory
In 1999, Pakistan’s intrusion into Indian territory in the Kargil sector led to a full-scale military operation. In response, India launched Operation Vijay, deploying 200,000 troops and over 250 artillery guns, including the Bofors FH-77B Howitzers, which played a crucial role in the mountainous terrain.
Despite the challenges of fighting at altitudes above 16,000 feet, the Indian Army regained control of key posts like Tiger Hill, Tololing, and Point 4875, securing a resounding victory.
Remembering Kargil War Heroes
The Kargil War saw the emergence of legendary soldiers whose valor still echoes in every Indian heart:
- Captain Vikram Batra (PVC): Known for the iconic line “Yeh Dil Maange More”, he led the mission to capture Point 5140 and sacrificed his life for the nation.
- Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey (PVC): His unforgettable quote, “If death strikes before I prove my blood, I swear I will kill death”, still inspires generations.
- Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav and Rifleman Sanjay Kumar were also awarded the Param Vir Chakra for their unmatched bravery.

🎵 Kargil Tribute Song
During the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas in 2019, General Bipin Rawat released the “Kargil Tribute Song” to honor the martyrs and veterans of the war. The soulful composition served as a national tribute to those who gave their lives for India’s sovereignty.
