The 2025 MAMA Awards are officially underway in Hong Kong with a revised format following the deadly Tai Po fire tragedy. Organisers have confirmed the ceremony will proceed with a restrained production style, while pledging humanitarian support to affected families.
Is the MAMA Awards 2025 cancelled?
No. Despite rumours circulating online, the event has NOT been cancelled. CJ ENM has formally denied reports suggesting the show would be called off.
Instead, the awards are proceeding with changes: reduced staging effects, cancellation of the opening red carpet, and a more respectful programme in honour of the victims.
CJ ENM donates ₩3.8 billion to Hong Kong fire relief
Event organiser CJ ENM and its parent company have announced a donation of ₩3.8 billion KRW (£2.2 million / $2.8 million USD) to relief efforts.
The funds will go toward emergency response units, medical aid and long-term assistance for families impacted by the blaze.
The company also issued a public message of condolences to Hong Kong, saying it stands “in complete solidarity with the victims and their families.”
How the Hong Kong fire has changed this year’s show
After the deadly apartment fire in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district, CJ ENM confirmed that the 2025 MAMA Awards will go ahead – but with substantial changes. The organisers have announced a “restrained” production, designed to emphasise comfort and healing rather than spectacle. That includes:
- Opening red carpet cancelled
- Special memorial segment included
- Fireworks, flame effects removed
- Lower-intensity stage lighting
- Reduced commercial advertising slots
CJ ENM confirmed that the show would “focus on music as a source of healing rather than spectacle.”

The two veteran performers are expected to lead the ceremony with a reflective and respectful tone.

K-Pop Demon Hunters collaboration explained
The 2025 MAMA Awards will feature an exclusive collaboration based on K-Pop Demon Hunters, an upcoming animated multimedia project blending performance storytelling, anime visuals and interactive sound stages.
The stage production is expected to blend choreography with narrative animation and CGI effects during one of the main performances.
