Nintendo has released Mario Kart World update 1.7.0 for the Nintendo Switch 2, delivering one of the game’s largest post-launch updates so far. The free patch introduces two new Knockout Tour routes, expands Photo Mode, makes several gameplay balance changes and fixes dozens of issues affecting online races, Time Trials and individual courses.
The update is available worldwide through the Nintendo Switch 2 system software. Players using online multiplayer should install version 1.7.0 before joining races, as everyone must be running the same game version to compete together.
Nintendo has published the complete patch notes through its official Mario Kart World support page, where the company outlines every gameplay adjustment and bug fix included in the release.
Two New Knockout Tour Routes Expand the Game
The headline feature in version 1.7.0 is the arrival of two additional Knockout Tour routes: Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally.
Drill Rally connects Wario Shipyard with Bowser’s Castle, while Boomerang Rally links Salty Salty Speedway and Whistlestop Summit. Both routes become available after players complete at least one Knockout Tour event.
Although only two new routes have been added, they significantly expand one of Mario Kart World’s signature multiplayer modes by introducing different checkpoint locations, shortcut opportunities and item strategies.
Why Knockout Tour Is Different
Unlike traditional Mario Kart races, Knockout Tour places 24 racers on one long connected course instead of a standard lap-based circuit.
Five elimination checkpoints are spread across the route. Drivers who fail to remain above the cutoff position at each checkpoint are removed from the race until only the final competitors remain.
Because of that format, consistency matters more than outright speed. Recovering quickly after an item hit or avoiding mistakes near a checkpoint can often determine whether a player survives another stage.
Nintendo has already confirmed that more Knockout Tour routes are planned in future updates, showing continued support for the mode after launch.

Photo Mode Receives New Creative Features
Photo Mode has also been expanded with a practical new editing tool. Players can now place unlocked stickers onto screenshots directly from the pause menu.
The feature supports both touchscreen controls and the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, making it easier to position stickers precisely. Frames and stickers can now be combined to create more customized screenshots without leaving the game.
For players who regularly collect unlockable content, the update gives stickers a more meaningful purpose beyond simply adding them to a collection.
Vehicle Balance Has Been Adjusted
Nintendo has made several gameplay adjustments designed to improve overall race balance.
Characters and vehicle combinations with lower acceleration now recover speed more effectively after collisions, item attacks or difficult corners. That change could encourage players to experiment with combinations that previously felt less competitive.
The company has also increased gliding speed for certain high-speed characters and selected vehicles. On courses featuring extended airborne sections, these changes may slightly alter racing lines and timing.
Competitive players will likely spend time testing whether these adjustments create new preferred character and kart combinations for online play.
Recovery and Movement Feel More Responsive
Several movement mechanics have also been refined.
Players can now hop immediately after being affected by Kamek’s magic or Bullet Bill, reducing the delay before regaining control.
Nintendo has also updated the conditions for performing Jump Boosts while driving across water and increased the dash duration after successfully landing on another racer.
Although these appear to be relatively small tweaks, they can make a noticeable difference during competitive races where fractions of a second often decide finishing positions.
Item Changes Could Influence Online Strategy
Version 1.7.0 also changes how item boxes distribute items during races and Knockout Tour events.
Nintendo has not detailed the exact mathematical adjustments, but even minor changes to item frequency can influence comeback opportunities, defensive play and race pacing.
Another useful improvement allows players to clearly identify opponents carrying a Super Horn. This provides more information before launching offensive items or attempting risky overtakes.
Players can now also cancel an upcoming slipstream boost by braking before it activates, giving them more control when approaching narrow corners or hazardous sections.
Course Improvements and New Ramp
A new ramp has been added to the route connecting Airship Fortress and Bowser’s Castle, creating another opportunity for faster movement and improved race flow.
Nintendo has also corrected numerous issues across different tracks, including locations where players could become stuck, clip through walls, fall unexpectedly or respawn incorrectly after leaving the course.
Several shortcut routes have been adjusted to improve consistency, helping reduce situations where successful runs could be interrupted by unintended bugs.
Thai Language Support Added
The update introduces official Thai language support for Mario Kart World.
Players can activate the language by changing the Nintendo Switch 2 system language through System Settings > System > Language. While this addition does not affect gameplay, it makes the game more accessible to a wider audience.
Time Trial Rankings Receive Important Fix
Competitive Time Trial players should pay particular attention to one correction included in version 1.7.0.
Nintendo fixed an issue that could display incorrect finishing times after crossing the finish line. As part of that correction, some affected ghost data may disappear from online rankings without prior notice.
Players chasing leaderboard positions may therefore notice changes to rankings following the update.
Online Play Stability Has Improved
Several multiplayer issues have also been addressed.
Nintendo fixed a bug preventing players from boarding helicopters during certain Online Play and Wireless Play sessions. Another update corrects Bob-omb throwing distance for the Standard Bike and W-Twin Chopper, making their behavior consistent with other vehicles.
Additional Bullet Bill-related issues have also been resolved, alongside improvements to overall multiplayer stability.
Long List of Course Bug Fixes
Many of the remaining changes focus on individual tracks.
Version 1.7.0 fixes problems involving Bowser’s Castle, Dandelion Depths, Peach Stadium, Shy Guy Bazaar, Dry Bones Burnout, Cheep Cheep Falls, Koopa Troopa Beach, Dino Dino Jungle and several connected race routes.
Among the corrected issues are racers becoming trapped on objects, falling through the course after specific jumps, clipping into walls, receiving incorrect coin deductions and being placed too far ahead after Lakitu recovery.
Nintendo says several additional issues have also been resolved to improve the overall gameplay experience, even if every individual fix is not listed separately.
