Mohamed Salah has shared a tender glimpse of family life, posting a photograph of himself lying in bed with his baby son, Lail, resting on his chest.
The picture shows the Egypt captain cradling the infant, who is wearing a striped outfit, during a quiet moment at home. Egyptian outlets Al-Masry Al-Youm and Masrawy reported on October 3 that this was the first photograph Salah had shared of himself with his son.
The family moment comes about a month after news of Lail’s arrival became public. He is Salah and his wife Magi Sadeq’s third child and first boy, joining older sisters Makka and Kayan.
How the family announced Lail’s arrival
News of the birth emerged on September 3, when Salah’s sister, Rabab, shared a photograph of a baby’s hat and revealed her nephew’s name. English-language reports have written the name as Lail, Leil and Layl; it means “night” in Arabic.
Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan also spoke about the family news after Salah and teammate André Onana travelled abroad following a match against Amedspor.
“Onana welcomed twins, while Salah welcomed a baby boy. I congratulate their families and wives,” Doğan said, according to Gulf News’s September report.
Some reports placed the birth in Britain. However, Al Mashhad’s October 3 coverage noted that the family had not officially announced the exact birth date or location, or explained why they chose the name.
Magi, Makka and Kayan: Salah’s family beyond football
Salah and Magi’s relationship began long before his rise to international fame. They grew up in Nagrig, Egypt, and married in 2013, when he was building his European career with Swiss club Basel.
Athlon Sports’ family profile describes Magi as a biotechnologist who largely keeps her life away from public attention. The couple welcomed Makka in 2014 and Kayan in 2020.
Makka, whose name honours the holy city of Mecca, became familiar to Liverpool supporters through family appearances at Anfield. The daughters have joined their parents for trophy celebrations, offering occasional glimpses of the family behind Salah’s football career.
His affection for that home life came through in an April 2025 interview with Liverpool FC. Asked how his family felt about his contract renewal at the time, Salah said: “They feel at home.” He added: “I think Makka was the happiest one in the family, she wanted us to stay.”
Since then, Salah’s departure from Liverpool after nine years has marked a major change in his football life. The latest photograph captures another change closer to home: a family of four becoming five, with Lail nestled in his father’s arms.
