Netflix has officially revealed the core cast for its upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, marking a fresh take on one of television’s most iconic mystery-solving groups. The announcement comes alongside a wave of major casting updates across popular streaming and network shows.
Netflix introduces a new generation of Mystery Inc.
The reimagined series will feature Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers. They join Mckenna Grace, who had already been confirmed in the role of Daphne Blake.
This modern adaptation explores the group during their final summer at camp, where longtime friends Shaggy and Daphne find themselves drawn into a chilling mystery tied to a lost Great Dane puppy. The story unfolds as the group teams up with Velma and newcomer Freddy, uncovering a case that slowly exposes hidden secrets and pushes them into a darker, more suspense-driven narrative.
The project is being led by showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, with a production team that includes several high-profile names known for shaping major television hits.
Major casting moves across top TV series
Beyond Netflix’s Scooby-Doo reveal, several popular series are expanding their casts ahead of new seasons.
The Morning Show Season 5 is adding Jesse Williams as Vernon, a newly appointed head of news at UBN. The character is described as a bold and disruptive figure known for commanding attention and reshaping narratives inside the newsroom.
Meanwhile, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5 is bringing in a wide lineup of recurring guest stars, including Chris Diamantopoulos, Corbin Bernsen, Diane Guerrero, and Steve Howey. In a notable update, Cobie Smulders has been promoted to a series regular following her introduction in the previous season.
New projects and high-profile additions
Netflix is also moving forward with The Altruists, a drama centered on the dramatic rise and collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency empire. The series will star Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle, with Hudson Williams and Jennifer Grey joining the cast.
Elsewhere, CBS drama Elsbeth has secured guest appearances from Patti LuPone and Michael Urie for its upcoming season finale, adding theatrical flair and intrigue to the show’s closing chapter.
Another highly anticipated adaptation, Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series, continues to build momentum with the casting of Nabhaan Rizwan and Claes Bang in key roles, though details about their characters remain under wraps.
Streaming landscape continues to evolve
The latest wave of casting announcements reflects the ongoing competition among streaming platforms to deliver recognizable franchises and star-driven storytelling. With nostalgic reboots like Scooby-Doo and ambitious projects tied to real-world events, studios are doubling down on content that blends familiarity with fresh narrative direction.
As these productions move closer to release, audiences can expect a mix of reinvention and expansion across both classic franchises and contemporary series.
