Nova Scotia Man Reported Missing on January 29 Found Deceased After May 16 River Hebert Discovery

A Nova Scotia man who was reported missing on January 29 has been located deceased after remains were found near River Hebert on May 16, according to a public update shared by Nova Scotia Fire/Emergency/Info.

Cumberland County District RCMP first responded on January 29 to a report involving a missing 48-year-old River Hebert man who had last been seen at about 10 a.m. that day. The official RCMP missing-person notice identified the man as Jamie Michael Heap and asked the public for help in locating him.

According to the Nova Scotia RCMP missing-person release, police said he was last seen in River Hebert and provided details as part of the public appeal.

Body found near Barronsfield Road on May 16

Officers later responded at approximately 8:30 a.m. on May 16 after a body was found on the mudflats near Barronsfield Road in River Hebert.

With assistance from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service, the remains were confirmed to be those of the man who had been reported missing in January, according to the public Facebook post.

Police said criminality is not believed to be a factor in his death. No further details about the circumstances were provided in the update.

Community receives painful update months later

The case began in late January, when RCMP asked for the public’s help after the River Hebert man was reported missing. Missing-person appeals are often shared widely across local communities, especially when investigators believe someone may have seen information that could help.

The May update brings the search to a painful close for the man’s family, friends and the wider River Hebert community. The post also included RCMP file numbers 2026-126530 and 2026-654464.

Authorities have not indicated that there is any threat to the public. The update said the thoughts of officials were with the man’s loved ones.
