A serious overnight fire at Pink Punters nightclub in Milton Keynes led to a large emergency response after people inside the venue were evacuated in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The incident happened at the well-known LGBT+ nightclub on Watling Street in Bletchley, near Milton Keynes. Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews were called to a commercial building at 02:09 BST, with 12 fire crews later attending the scene.
Pink Punters was open for its Saturday night session when the fire broke out. The venue is one of the most recognised nightlife spots in the area and regularly draws large weekend crowds. Police confirmed that everyone inside was evacuated and no injuries were reported.
The safe evacuation has become the most important detail from the incident, given the timing of the fire and the number of people likely to have been in the building during the early hours.
Fire crews remain at Pink Punters after major Bletchley blaze
Emergency teams worked through the night to control the blaze. Firefighters from West Ashland, Broughton, Newport Pagnell, Woburn, Leighton Buzzard, Buckingham and Olney were among those sent to the scene, alongside five officers.
Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service also attended, working with fire crews and staff at the venue. Cordons were put in place around the area, and a road closure was introduced while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Residents living nearby were advised to keep windows and doors closed because of smoke coming from the building. The public was also asked to avoid the area while crews continued their work.
According to local station MKFM, one person at the scene said the venue had been left “absolutely ruined” after the fire. They added that everyone was moved out quickly and that nobody was hurt.
That quick action appears to have prevented a much more serious outcome. Fires in busy late-night venues can become dangerous within minutes, particularly when smoke spreads through enclosed areas. In this case, the evacuation was completed before any injuries were reported.
Popular LGBT+ venue faces uncertain future
Pink Punters has been an important part of Milton Keynes nightlife for many years. The nightclub is known for its LGBTQ+ identity, late-night events, multiple music spaces and loyal customer base. For many regular visitors, it is more than a weekend venue; it is a familiar social space and part of the wider local community.
The fire has therefore caused shock across Bletchley and Milton Keynes. Early descriptions from the scene suggest serious damage, although the full scale of destruction will only become clear after fire investigators and building safety teams complete their assessments.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. Officials are expected to examine the site once it is safe to do so. Until then, any claims about how the blaze started should be treated with caution.
The nightclub’s future operations are also unclear. Pink Punters’ official website, pinkpunters.com, lists information about the venue and events, but customers will now be waiting for a formal update on whether upcoming nights can go ahead.
For staff, performers, DJs, regular guests and the wider LGBTQ+ community, the damage may be deeply felt. Independent nightlife venues have faced rising costs and changing customer habits in recent years, making any long closure especially difficult.
Still, the strongest point from Sunday’s incident is that people got out safely. The building may have been badly damaged, but the absence of reported injuries is a significant relief.
Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service is expected to provide further incident updates through its official channels. Residents can check public safety notices and emergency information on the service’s official incidents page.
As of the latest update, emergency services were continuing to manage the scene, with crews expected to remain there for some time. People have been urged not to travel to the area unless necessary.
The fire at Pink Punters is likely to remain a major local story for Milton Keynes, not only because of the scale of the emergency response, but because of the venue’s place in the city’s nightlife and LGBTQ+ community.
Further details are expected once the site is made safe, the damage is assessed and investigators begin looking into the cause of the blaze.
