The seasonal update brings dynamic weather, new ARC enemy variants, extensive weapon balancing, progression improvements, and stronger anti-cheat enforcement, making it one of the game’s most significant gameplay updates to date.
Instead of simply adding new content, Patch 1.17.0 focuses on changing player decision-making. Storm conditions reduce visibility, alter combat encounters, and encourage different approaches to exploration and extraction across the Rust Belt.
Hurricane Event Changes Combat Across the Surface
The biggest addition is a new Hurricane map condition. During active storms, powerful winds, thick fog, and flying debris make visibility much lower than normal, forcing players to rely more on positioning, sound, and teamwork than long-range sightlines.
Every raid affected by the hurricane becomes less predictable. Areas that were once safe to cross can quickly become dangerous, while reduced visibility also creates more opportunities for stealth and surprise encounters.

Weapon Balancing Focuses on Fairer Gunfights
Developers said previous changes unintentionally affected the firing rhythm of several semi-automatic weapons. Patch 1.17.0 adjusts input buffering so that weapons remain responsive without rewarding excessive rapid clicking.
Several popular firearms have received individual tuning:
- Stitcher: Reduced headshot multiplier, slightly lower damage, and increased spread.
- Kettle: Base damage reduced to limit close-range effectiveness.
- Venator: Lower headshot multiplier and reduced damage.

Quality-of-Life Improvements
Players now receive three free Feat rerolls each day, while the previous PvP-specific Feat system has been removed in favor of updated objectives.
Several gameplay restrictions have also been added to prevent unintended strategies. Ziplines can no longer be attached to movable objects, while mines, traps, and remote flares cannot be stacked on other deployable equipment.
The update even adds an interactive piano that players can discover while exploring the game world.
Anti-Cheat and Competitive Fairness
Competitive integrity remains another major focus of Patch 1.17.0. NVIDIA Freestyle filters can no longer all be enabled simultaneously, reducing visual advantages that could affect competitive play.
Embark Studios has also strengthened its anti-cheat enforcement. Serious violations may now result in immediate permanent bans, while less severe offenses can receive temporary suspensions. The developer says future enforcement will continue to combine automated detection systems with manual review processes.
