School Buses Cancelled Across Most of Simcoe County as Winter Conditions Disrupt Travel

School bus transportation was cancelled across much of Simcoe County on Friday morning, forcing thousands of families to make alternative arrangements as winter weather created unsafe travel conditions in several regions.

The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium confirmed that most zones were placed under full bus cancellations, while only one area remained unaffected.

All buses cancelled in the following zones:

  • North: Elmvale, Midland, Penetanguishene and Orillia
  • West: Collingwood, Stayner and Wasaga Beach
  • Central: Barrie, Innisfil and Angus
  • South: Alliston, Beeton, Bradford, Cookstown and Tottenham

Buses operating normally in the following zone:

  • Muskoka

Transportation officials aim to post cancellation decisions between 6:00 and 6:30am, giving parents and caregivers time to adjust morning plans. While buses may be cancelled, schools often remain open unless individual boards announce closures separately.

Bus cancellations are typically triggered by a combination of poor road conditions, limited visibility and extreme cold, particularly on rural routes where safety risks increase quickly during winter storms.

Families are encouraged to check live updates each morning, as conditions can vary widely across the county. Official alerts and zone-by-zone updates are published by the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium.

Officials stress that cancellations, while disruptive, are made with student safety as the top priority during periods of severe weather.
