How many jobs will SpaceX create in Louisiana?
The arrival of SpaceX in Louisiana is expected to create 3,000 direct jobs over the next 10 years. Louisiana Economic Development estimates that these positions will pay an average annual salary of approximately $92,600.
The projected salary is 192% above the current average wage in Vermilion Parish, according to the state’s official announcement.

SpaceX has joined Source Louisiana, a state database connecting major development projects with local suppliers and contractors. Louisiana businesses can register to be considered for construction, equipment and service opportunities connected to the spaceport.
The project also includes a significant financial agreement with local taxing authorities.
Under a Payment in Lieu of Taxes agreement, SpaceX will make an upfront payment of $20 million. It will then pay Vermilion Parish $25 million annually for 25 years.
The yearly payment will increase under an agreed formula. Louisiana officials estimate that the arrangement could generate more than $820 million in direct local payments over its lifetime.
The state has offered SpaceX an incentive package linked to the company meeting its promised capital-investment and job-creation targets.
SpaceX is also expected to donate $25 million to the Community Foundation of Acadiana. The donation will be used to address community and regional needs arising from the growth associated with the project.
Vermilion Parish residents are also being offered a Starlink benefit. New and existing customers will receive a 50% discount on eligible monthly internet plans.
Qualifying new customers will not have to pay an upfront hardware charge, according to the official announcement.
Supporters believe the project could create high-paying careers, strengthen local businesses and bring new investment to a region traditionally associated with fishing, agriculture and the oil and gas industry.
