Stewart McLeanâs death is now at the centre of a homicide investigation after the actor was found in the Lions Bay area of British Columbia days after being reported missing.
McLean, 45, was last seen at his home in Lions Bay on May 15, 2026. Squamish RCMP received a missing-person report on May 18 and initially asked the public for help finding him.
The case changed after investigators found evidence suggesting McLean may have been the victim of homicide. Canadaâs Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the file on May 20, working with Squamish RCMP and forensic officers.
McLeanâs remains were later found in the Lions Bay area. Police have said the incident appears to be isolated, but no cause of death, suspect or motive has been released.
Police reviewing CCTV and final movements
Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to build a timeline of McLeanâs movements before he was last seen.
The original RCMP missing-person appeal listed McLean as a 45-year-old man from Lions Bay and said police were concerned for his wellbeing.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about McLeanâs movements before May 15 to contact IHIT.
McLean appeared in several TV productions
McLeanâs screen credits included Virgin River, Arrow, The Irrational, Happy Face and Murder in a Small Town.
While his connection to Virgin River brought wider attention to the case, the investigation now centres on the evidence trail in Lions Bay and the unanswered questions around the days before he disappeared.
Police have not released further details, and the case remains active.
