Taylor Swift has released a 13-second teaser for her upcoming âPatient Zeroâ music video, featuring Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell. The brief preview is packed with cryptic imagery, but one detail has drawn particular attention: a gravestone marked 1989â2022.
According to CBS News, the full video will premiere during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

The mysterious 1989â2022 grave
The teaser shows Swift and Johnson standing in a snowy cemetery beside a gravestone carrying the dates 1989â2022. The meaning has not been explained by Swift or her team.
The date immediately stands out because 1989 is Swiftâs birth year and the title of her fifth studio album. The year 2022 was also a major point in her career, when she released Midnights, although there is currently no confirmed connection between that album and the grave.
Other flashes in the teaser include a black rose, water scenes, a bathroom mirror, classical-style statues and an emotional close-up of Swift. Colin Farrell is also briefly seen before appearing alongside Swift and Johnson.
Us Weekly noted that Swift also wears prominent jewelry during one of the emotional scenes, suggesting the video may involve a fictional relationship or character storyline.
Clues may have appeared months earlier
Fans have also revisited earlier Swift visuals after the âPatient Zeroâ announcement.
One notable clue appeared in the âOpaliteâ video, where a poster reportedly displayed the words âPATIENT FOR THE ENCORE.â The phrase now appears more significant following the announcement of âPatient Zeroâ and The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.
Just Jared also highlighted visuals containing multiple zeroes, another detail fans have connected to the song title.
During an earlier television appearance, Swift said:
âI think what weâre gonna be looking for is hiding in plain sight.â
She also referenced âNorth or South,â which fans later linked to Dakota Johnson after the actress was revealed in the teaser. Swift has not confirmed that interpretation.
The teaser itself lasts about 13 seconds, another likely deliberate detail given Swiftâs long association with the number 13.
The video also has major filmmaking talent behind it. Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, known for Gravity, Birdman and The Revenant, worked on the project, giving the teaser a distinctly cinematic look.
For now, the biggest unanswered question remains the meaning of the 1989â2022 gravestone. The full âPatient Zeroâ video is expected to reveal whether the date represents a character, a past era, or something entirely different.
