Taylor Swift and Tom Cruise Spotted Together at Chiefs Opener as She Cheers Travis Kelce

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Taylor Swift returned to Arrowhead Stadium on Monday, Sept. 14, for the Kansas City Chiefs’ first game of the 2026 NFL season, but another famous face quickly drew attention: Tom Cruise was spotted sitting beside Swift and chatting with her as she watched husband Travis Kelce face the Denver Broncos.

The two stars appeared together in a suite during the first quarter at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. Swift, 36, wore a red-and-white checkered top and was seen sipping a drink while talking with Cruise, 64, as Kansas City opened its season on Monday Night Football.

The moment added a Hollywood subplot to a game already carrying major significance for the Chiefs, with Patrick Mahomes returning from a serious knee injury and Kansas City beginning its attempt to rebound from a 6-11 season.

Taylor Swift and Tom Cruise share the spotlight at Arrowhead

Swift attending a Chiefs game is now a familiar sight, but Cruise’s presence made Monday’s appearance stand out. The NFL and ESPN both highlighted the pair during the broadcast as they watched from the suite.

Cruise also has a personal connection to Swift and Kelce. According to the supplied reporting, he was among the celebrity guests at the couple’s July 3 wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The footage showed the pair talking casually while following the game. There was no indication their conversation represented anything beyond two high-profile guests watching one of the NFL’s biggest opening-week matchups.

Swift’s first Chiefs game since marrying Travis Kelce

Monday also marked Swift’s first regular-season Chiefs appearance since marrying Kelce over the summer.

Swift first attended one of Kelce’s games in September 2023, when Kansas City hosted the Chicago Bears. Since then, she has become a regular presence at major Chiefs games, often attending with family members, friends and people close to the organization.

Her parents, Scott and Andrea Swift, and brother Austin have all joined her at games, while Swift has also frequently been seen alongside Kelce’s mother Donna and Brittany Mahomes.

Kansas City won 13 of the first 16 Chiefs games Swift attended, according to the supplied report.

Swift picked Arrowhead on Emmys night

The timing of Swift’s appearance added another layer to the story. The Chiefs opener took place on the same night as the 2026 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

Swift’s concert project, Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show, had been part of this year’s Emmy conversation, but she spent Monday evening in Kansas City supporting Kelce instead.

The entertainment-meets-sports crossover has become increasingly common around major NFL events. Buffalo’s opener also attracted attention beyond the field after the Bills featured both U.S. and Canadian anthem performances around their home game.

Patrick Mahomes returns after major knee injury

While Swift and Cruise drew attention in the stands, the most important Chiefs storyline was on the field.

Mahomes returned after suffering ACL and LCL tears in December 2025, injuries that ended his season and raised questions about whether he would be ready for Week 1.

The NFL selected Broncos-Chiefs as its 2026 Monday Night Football season premiere, giving Mahomes’ comeback a national stage.

Denver entered the new season after going 14-3 in 2025 and ending Kansas City’s run of nine consecutive AFC West titles. The Chiefs finished 6-11, making the opener an early test of whether their difficult season was a temporary setback or the beginning of a wider transition.

Kelce begins season No. 14

Kelce, 36, started his 14th NFL season, all with Kansas City. His return gave Mahomes one of his longest-tenured targets as the Chiefs tried to restore their place among the AFC’s contenders.

Comeback stories are already shaping the new NFL season elsewhere, including George Kittle’s return from an Achilles injury for the 49ers.

For Swift, Monday was another night supporting Kelce at Arrowhead. But with Cruise beside her, Mahomes back under center and Kansas City facing the team that took its AFC West crown, the Chiefs’ 2026 opener delivered plenty of attention both on and off the field.
