Why Thousands Lined Up in Sydney’s Heatwave — and the Rock Star Waiting Inside

Huge queues wrapped around King Street in Sydney’s inner-west on Thursday as fans braved a sweltering heatwave to catch a glimpse of international rock star Yungblud.

The 28-year-old singer, who hails from northern England and has built a fiercely loyal global following, invited fans to the suburb of Newtown for a special pop-up exhibition showcasing exclusive photographs from the past 18 months of his life and career.

The exhibition, hosted at Creative Studio 551 Gallery, features images taken by his photographer Tom during the “IDOLS” campaign — many of which, Yungblud told fans, had never been seen before.

“Tom, my photographer, is having an exhibition of photos that he took during this whole IDOLS campaign — a lot of the stuff is going to be stuff you haven’t seen yet,” he said in a message shared with fans.

Yungblud also confirmed he would attend the exhibition in person, telling followers he planned to arrive around 12:30pm, a move that quickly sparked excitement and drew large crowds despite the oppressive heat.

The English rocker, who boasts more than seven million followers on Instagram, shared his enthusiasm for being back in Australia, admitting he had “forgotten” just how much he loved the country and its fans.

“So come meet me, come say hello, come give me a cuddle, come give me a kiss,” he said, encouraging Sydneysiders to stop by.

Fans began lining up hours in advance, stretching around the block for the chance to meet the artist, grab a photo, and experience the intimate exhibition ahead of his upcoming Sydney concert. Many were seen shielding themselves from the sun while waiting patiently, underscoring the devotion of Yungblud’s fanbase.

The spontaneous meet-and-greet added to the buzz around his Australian visit, turning a quiet Newtown gallery into a hotspot for music fans and reinforcing Yungblud’s reputation for close, personal connections with his audience.
