Newfoundland Power Outage Today: Thousands Affected After Labrador Island Link Trip

Thousands of electricity customers across Newfoundland temporarily lost power on June 6 after a trip on the Labrador Island Link disrupted service across parts of the island.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro confirmed the incident in a social media update, saying power had been restored to almost all affected customers by about 12:10 p.m.

One area near Glenwood remained without power after the wider restoration. Newfoundland Power crews were responding to that remaining outage, according to the update.

Power Restored After Labrador Island Link Trip

The outage was linked to a trip on the Labrador Island Link, a major part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s electricity transmission system. The disruption affected thousands of customers before service was brought back for most of the island.

While the main outage was resolved by early afternoon, the exception near Glenwood showed that some localized restoration work was still needed after the broader system issue had been addressed.

The latest incident comes as electricity reliability remains a key issue for the province, following previous concerns over rotating power outages in Newfoundland caused by generation shortfalls.

Customers Told to Follow Official Updates

Residents still affected by outages should check official utility updates rather than relying only on social media posts. Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro provides service information through its official website at Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.

By Saturday afternoon, the main message from the utility was that power had been restored for nearly all customers affected by the Labrador Island Link trip, with Newfoundland Power crews handling the remaining outage near Glenwood.
