AMC Down Today

AMC Down Today: Is the AMC App Still Not Working as ‘Dune: Part Three’ Tickets Go on Sale?”

AMC Theatres customers reported problems with the company’s mobile app and website Tuesday as moviegoers tried to secure Dune: Part Three tickets, disrupting purchases during a closely watched advance-sale window for fans seeking premium screenings.

The problems emerged shortly after noon Eastern Time on August 18. Downdetector received more than 1,000 reports during the spike, with most complaints involving AMC’s mobile app. Website problems were also reported, while searches for “AMC down” increased as customers tried to determine whether the issue was widespread.

The timing was particularly significant because additional tickets for the highly anticipated movie were released Tuesday. IMAX confirmed additional Dune: Part Three IMAX 70mm tickets were released on August 18, putting extra attention on limited premium screenings.

What AMC users reported during the outage

The available outage data pointed primarily to the AMC app, although customers also reported website problems. The rapid increase in reports from multiple users suggested that at least some of the trouble extended beyond an isolated phone, internet connection or individual AMC account.

Outage trackers rely heavily on user reports, however, so a spike can show that customers are experiencing problems without revealing the technical cause.

There was no confirmed technical explanation for Tuesday’s disruption in the initial information available. The outage coincided with the Dune: Part Three ticket release, but that alone does not establish that movie demand caused AMC’s problems.

Tuesday also coincided with an AMC promotion offering free ICEE drinks. There is no verified evidence that the promotion caused or contributed to the digital disruption.

Why Dune: Part Three tickets matter

Dune: Part Three is scheduled to open December 18, 2026. Demand is especially important for moviegoers seeking IMAX and IMAX 70mm presentations, where participating theaters and desirable seats are more limited than for standard screenings.

IMAX’s announced 70mm locations include major AMC venues such as AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York and AMC Metreon 16 in San Francisco. Availability varies by theater, so losing access during a busy sale can matter to someone targeting a particular showtime, seat or premium format.

Customers can also check ticket availability through other authorized ticketing platforms such as Fandango, although theaters, formats, showtimes and remaining seats vary by location.

Is the AMC app still down?

The outage reports do not mean every AMC customer was unable to use the service nationwide. The more accurate picture is that users reported intermittent app and website problems during Tuesday’s spike.

If the AMC app does not load, customers can try AMC’s website. If both are experiencing problems at the same time, repeatedly reinstalling the app or changing phone settings may not fix a wider service-side issue.

Customers who reached the payment stage before encountering an error should check their AMC account, confirmation email and payment activity before attempting the purchase again. An error after checkout does not necessarily show whether the original transaction succeeded.

Moviegoers looking specifically for IMAX 70mm should also verify the format at their chosen theater. Standard IMAX and IMAX 70mm are different presentations, and not every AMC location offers 70mm screenings.

Another test for high-demand online services

AMC has dealt with customer complaints during other high-demand movie sales, including reported app and website difficulties around ticket demand for The Odyssey. Major entertainment releases can put unusual pressure on online systems when large numbers of customers try to reserve limited seats within a short period.

The wider 2026 entertainment calendar is packed with high-profile releases. For example, interest around Marvel remains intense as audiences follow developments including Avengers: Doomsday reports and what has actually been confirmed.

Digital disruptions can also leave users uncertain about whether a problem is on their device or affecting a much larger service. That distinction became important when Reddit, X, Monzo and Fortnite experienced service problems within hours of each other, prompting similar questions about the scale and cause of the disruptions.

For AMC customers Tuesday, the key confirmed details are that outage reports rose sharply, the mobile app accounted for much of the reported trouble, website issues were also reported, and the disruption overlapped with heightened interest in Dune: Part Three tickets. The technical cause of the AMC problems has not been confirmed.
