ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia — The father of Punjabi singer and actor Ammy Virk has denied reports that his son was targeted in a drive-by shooting following a concert in Abbotsford, Canada.
Kuljit Singh said Virk was safe and was not inside the vehicle at which shots were fired. He maintained that the gunfire was directed at a concert organiser’s vehicle rather than the singer or a car belonging to him.
The family’s account challenges reports claiming that Virk was travelling in a bulletproof Rolls-Royce when the shooting occurred.

What Ammy Virk’s father said
Speaking from Lohar Majra village in Punjab’s Patiala district, Kuljit Singh said his son was not the intended target and had not received any threats.
He said Virk had no dispute with anyone and that the singer and his family were safe. According to Singh, the vehicle involved belonged to the organiser of the Abbotsford concert.
His clarification followed several reports that described the incident as an attack on Virk’s concert convoy. Some accounts claimed approximately seven shots were fired at a bulletproof Rolls-Royce carrying the singer and a promoter.
Those specific claims have not been confirmed by Abbotsford Police.
Police have not publicly identified the occupants of the vehicle, disclosed its make or confirmed that Virk was travelling in it. Authorities have cited privacy considerations when asked about the people involved.
What Abbotsford Police have confirmed
According to an official Abbotsford Police statement, a vehicle was travelling through the 2500 block of McCallum Road shortly after 11 p.m. when occupants of a dark-coloured SUV opened fire.
Officers attended the scene and confirmed that a shooting had taken place. No injuries were reported.
A short time later, police received a report of a vehicle fire in the 2400 block of Sunnyside Place. Officers arrived to find an SUV fully engulfed in flames.
The Abbotsford Police Major Crime Unit is investigating whether the burned SUV was connected to the shooting. Police said early evidence indicated the attack was targeted, although they have not disclosed who or what was targeted.
That distinction is important: the police description of a “targeted” shooting does not establish that Ammy Virk personally was the target.
The incident occurred hours after Virk performed in Abbotsford as part of his 2026 Unity Tour. The timing led to speculation that the targeted vehicle was associated with the concert, but the singer’s father has now rejected claims that Virk was placed in danger.
No arrests have been announced, and investigators have not released a possible motive.
Police are seeking witnesses and dashcam recordings from the McCallum Road area between 10:45 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., as well as footage from Sunnyside Place between 11 p.m. and midnight on September 5.
