Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar Fight on Pit Road After Bristol Crash

BRISTOL, Tenn. — A tense NASCAR Cup Series night at Bristol Motor Speedway spilled over into a physical confrontation after the checkered flag, with Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar exchanging blows on pit road following a late-race crash that ended Blaney’s hopes of a strong finish.

The confrontation came after Blaney and Hocevar made contact while battling near the front during Saturday night’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race. Blaney was sent into the outside wall, while Hocevar continued and remained in contention during the closing stages.

What happened between Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar?

Blaney had moved ahead of Hocevar while the pair were fighting for position when their cars made contact entering the corner. The contact sent Blaney across the track and into the outside wall, effectively ending his competitive run at Bristol.

Blaney made little effort to hide his frustration afterward.

“I got crashed,” Blaney said while discussing the incident after getting out of his car.

Asked about what could happen next between the two drivers, Blaney also indicated that the disagreement might not end on the racetrack.

“Something’s going to happen,” he said.

That tension carried directly onto pit road after the race.

Video from the scene showed Blaney approaching Hocevar near the No. 77 team. Words were exchanged before the confrontation became physical, with punches thrown as crew members and officials quickly moved between the drivers.

The altercation immediately became one of the biggest talking points from the Bristol race, with video of the incident spreading rapidly across social media.

NASCAR coverage described a chaotic scene on pit road as officials and team members attempted to separate those involved.

Hocevar remained in the fight at the front

Despite the contact with Blaney, Hocevar remained competitive during the closing laps and continued battling near the front of the field.

Joey Logano ultimately emerged from the late-race battles to take the victory at Bristol, while the confrontation involving Blaney and Hocevar became the major post-race storyline.

Blaney’s frustration was heightened by the fact that his car had shown strong pace earlier in the race. He had been running near the front and appeared capable of challenging for a top finish before the contact changed the direction of his night.

The incident also puts renewed attention on Hocevar’s aggressive racing style.

Earlier this month, Hocevar was involved in an incident with Brad Keselowski at Darlington, prompting a pointed response from the former NASCAR Cup Series champion.

“His day is coming and it’s coming hard. Watch out, Carson,” Keselowski said following that incident.

Hocevar later responded to criticism surrounding his racing style by saying: “I’ll tighten my belts.”

The Bristol confrontation now adds another high-profile driver to the list of competitors who have had heated moments with Hocevar.

Attention will also turn to whether NASCAR reviews the pit-road altercation and issues any penalties or other disciplinary action following the fight.

Any official ruling would normally come after NASCAR reviews video, team reports and accounts from those involved.

This report is based on race coverage, post-race interviews, publicly available video and reporting from NASCAR and other motorsports outlets.
