Businessman Pistol-Whipped in Downtown LA, Robbed of $50,000 Rolex in Broad Daylight

LOS ANGELES, October 23, 2026 — A downtown Los Angeles businessman was pistol-whipped and robbed of a Rolex watch reportedly worth $50,000 outside his Fashion District store in broad daylight. The violent attack, captured on surveillance video, left the victim with head injuries as police searched for two masked suspects who fled in a black sedan.

The victim, identified as Israeli businessman Ronen Vered, was attacked around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, in the 1100 block of East 12th Street. Customers were reportedly inside his store when the robbery unfolded near the entrance.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that a watch was stolen during the robbery but did not independently verify its reported $50,000 value.

Downtown LA Rolex Robbery Caught on Surveillance Camera

Security footage shows two men dressed in black emerging from the passenger side of a black sedan before rushing toward Vered as he stood near his storefront.

One suspect appeared to hold a handgun against Vered’s head while the attackers grabbed and assaulted him. The confrontation quickly escalated as the businessman struggled to escape.

The suspects repeatedly pulled Vered toward the ground, and one allegedly struck him in the head with the weapon. During the struggle, an attacker removed the Rolex from his wrist.

Both suspects then escaped in the waiting sedan. The footage was initially circulated by Israeli Week News before attracting wider attention online.

Businessman Ronen Vered Suffers Head Injuries

Vered, described by authorities as a man in his 50s, sustained head injuries during the attack and reportedly received hospital treatment.

Images from the aftermath show blood on the pavement near the storefront. His precise medical condition and discharge status have not been independently confirmed.

The attack occurred during normal business hours in the Fashion District, a busy commercial area known for wholesale clothing businesses, retailers and pedestrian activity.

Although customers were reportedly inside the store, there were no confirmed reports of injuries to other people.

LAPD Confirms Robbery and Releases Suspect Descriptions

LAPD Public Information Officer Tony Im confirmed to the California Post that officers responded to a robbery shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the victim was a man in his 50s whose watch had been stolen. A crime bulletin described two Black male suspects wearing black clothing and traveling in a black sedan.

Authorities have not publicly identified the suspects, confirmed arrests or announced recovery of the stolen watch.

The vehicle’s license plate, exact model and escape route have not been publicly disclosed.

Anyone with information can consult the Los Angeles Police Department for official reporting and contact information.

Police Have Not Established a Hate-Crime Motive

Vered’s Israeli background has raised questions about whether his nationality or Jewish identity played a role in the attack.

However, available police information does not establish an antisemitic motive. Initial reporting indicated that authorities were not treating the robbery as a hate crime.

Investigators have also not confirmed whether the suspects deliberately targeted Vered because of his expensive watch or had monitored his movements beforehand.

Spencer Pratt Shares Robbery Video on X

Former reality television personality and Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt shared the surveillance footage on Thursday, October 22.

Pratt described the victim as a neighbor of a friend and criticized the attackers’ apparent lack of hesitation during the daylight robbery.

His post drew additional attention to the incident, although the video alone cannot establish wider crime trends or explain the suspects’ intentions.

Violent Rolex Theft Raises Concerns for LA Businesses

The incident highlights the risks posed by armed robberies involving high-value personal items, particularly when confrontations occur outside occupied businesses.

For shop owners, the footage illustrates how quickly a routine afternoon can turn dangerous. Exterior security cameras may provide evidence, but personal safety remains the immediate priority during an armed confrontation.

Other violent incidents in the Los Angeles area, including the shooting near California State University, Northridge, have raised separate concerns about safety in public spaces. Police have not connected those cases.

Separately, the armed suspect incident near Las Vegas airport demonstrated how quickly law enforcement responses can disrupt public areas, although it was unrelated to the Los Angeles robbery.

Investigation Continues as Suspects Remain Unidentified

As of the latest reporting available on October 23, investigators had not publicly announced arrests or confirmed whether Vered’s Rolex had been recovered.

Key unanswered questions include whether the businessman was specifically targeted, how the suspects selected the location and whether additional surveillance footage can help police identify their getaway vehicle.

For Vered, the robbery resulted in injuries and the loss of a valuable watch outside the business where he was working. The investigation remains ongoing.
