Buffalo Rock Legends Return Home After 40 Years
Formed in Buffalo in 1986 by John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, Goo Goo Dolls have become one of the city’s most recognizable musical exports. Their Thanksgiving appearance comes during the band’s 40th anniversary year.
The group has sold more than 15 million records worldwide, received four Grammy nominations and earned numerous gold and platinum certifications.
Their 1998 hit “Iris” has surpassed six billion global streams, including more than one billion in 2025 alone. Other well-known songs include “Slide,” “Name,” “Black Balloon” and “Here Is Gone.”
The band’s major albums include A Boy Named Goo, certified double platinum, and Dizzy Up the Girl, certified five-times platinum. Its seven-track Summer Anthem EP is also available through Warner Records.
Despite the group’s extensive catalog, the Bills have not announced which songs will be included in the Thanksgiving performance.
Historic Bills vs. Chiefs Thanksgiving Matchup
The November 26 game will be Buffalo’s first Thanksgiving home contest in franchise history. The Bills previously played 11 games on the holiday, recording six wins, four losses and one tie.
Buffalo’s most recent Thanksgiving appearance came in 2022, when the team defeated the Detroit Lions. This year’s game will also continue the Bills-Chiefs rivalry, one of the AFC’s most closely followed matchups.
The concert will take place during the inaugural season of the new Highmark Stadium, which opened for regular-season football in September 2026. The venue’s opening celebrations included special performances and national anthem ceremonies at the Bills’ home opener.
