Two People Reportedly Critically Injured

Subsequent media reports indicated that two people were believed to have sustained critical injuries. However, the initial ABC News report did not confirm the number of people involved or their medical conditions.

Four ambulance crews attended the emergency, and a rescue helicopter was dispatched before later being stood down.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the injured people were drivers or passengers, which hospitals they may have been taken to, or whether anyone else was involved.

Great Eastern Highway Closed Near Meckering

The crash forced the closure of Great Eastern Highway near Quellington Road, with traffic backing up as police, firefighters and ambulance crews worked at the scene.

Great Eastern Highway is an important freight and passenger transport corridor connecting Perth with Wheatbelt communities and destinations further east.

The closure may affect regional deliveries, commercial truck movements and motorists travelling between Perth and inland Western Australia.

Drivers should check the official Main Roads WA Travel Map for current road closures, traffic conditions and alternative routes before travelling.

Nine Firefighting Crews Respond to Major Blaze

Nine volunteer and career firefighting crews were deployed alongside four ambulance crews and police.

The emergency response involved extinguishing both vehicle fires, cooling the damaged wreckage and securing the highway for further investigation.

Truck fires can create additional hazards through intense heat, smoke, damaged fuel systems and unstable vehicle components. Recovery operations may also require specialist equipment to remove heavy wreckage safely.

The collision comes days after another serious Western Australian road incident, when two teenagers died in a BMW crash in Bullsbrook near Perth.

Police Investigate Cause of Meckering Crash

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. The cause remains unknown, and authorities have not established whether speed, fatigue, mechanical failure or road conditions contributed.

Investigators may examine vehicle damage, debris, witness statements and available dashcam footage to determine how the crash occurred.

The incident follows other significant emergency events in Western Australia, including recent bushfire emergencies affecting communities around Perth.

Police Appeal for Witnesses as Highway Remains Disrupted

Police have urged anyone with information about the collision to contact Crime Stoppers. Motorists who travelled through Meckering around 6:45 a.m. may have relevant dashcam footage.

Authorities had not confirmed a highway reopening time in the initial report. The removal of damaged vehicles and completion of safety checks could affect when traffic resumes.

Further official updates are awaited on the condition of those involved, the cause of the collision and the reopening of Great Eastern Highway.
