Bank Pekao App Down? Thousands Unable to Log In as PeoPay Outage Hits Poland

Thousands of Bank Pekao customers across Poland woke up to banking problems on Wednesday after a disruption affected the lender’s PeoPay mobile application. The issue primarily impacted Android users, with many reporting that they were unable to log in, authorize transactions or use BLIK payments normally.

The problems began to surface in the early hours of the morning and quickly gained attention online as customer complaints increased. According to reports submitted to outage-tracking platforms, the number of complaints surged after around 5:00 a.m., with more than 1,600 reports recorded later in the morning. The majority of users pointed to login failures within the PeoPay app, while others reported difficulties completing transactions that required mobile authorization.

Bank Pekao acknowledged the issue in an official customer update, confirming that some Android users were experiencing difficulties with PeoPay. The bank said the disruption could affect BLIK payments and online purchases that require approval through the mobile application. At the same time, it reassured customers that card payments continued to function normally.

While outages involving banking apps are not uncommon, the impact can be significant because mobile applications now sit at the center of everyday banking. Customers rely on PeoPay not only for checking balances but also for authorizing payments, managing cards, handling deposits and accessing account services. When authorization tools become unavailable, users can find themselves unable to complete online purchases even if their bank accounts remain active.

What services were affected?

The disruption appears to have affected several key functions used by Bank Pekao customers daily. Reports indicated problems with logging into the application, using BLIK for payments and approving online transactions through the app. Because PeoPay serves as an authentication tool for many banking activities, some customers also experienced difficulties accessing Pekao24 online banking using standard two-factor authentication.

The outage comes at a time when BLIK remains one of Poland’s most widely used payment methods. Millions of consumers use the service for online shopping, person-to-person transfers, ATM withdrawals and in-store purchases. As a result, any disruption involving app-based authorization can quickly affect a large number of customers.

Digital banking failures have become increasingly visible across Europe as customers shift more of their financial activity to mobile devices. Earlier this year, customers at other major banks experienced similar problems, including a major outage affecting Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland mobile banking services, highlighting how dependent modern banking has become on app-based infrastructure.

Bank Pekao offers temporary workaround

For customers struggling to access Pekao24 through mobile authorization, Bank Pekao provided several troubleshooting steps. Users were advised to try logging in through a different browser that does not contain saved login credentials, use an incognito browsing session or clear their browser cache. According to the bank, these steps should allow an SMS verification option to appear for customers who are unable to confirm access through PeoPay.

The lender has not disclosed the technical cause behind the outage. However, it said its teams were actively working to restore full functionality as quickly as possible. Until normal service returns, customers who need urgent access to their accounts may find browser-based banking through Pekao24 more reliable than the mobile application.

For now, affected users should monitor official Bank Pekao communication channels for updates, use alternative payment methods where available and avoid repeated login attempts that could trigger additional security checks. With thousands of reports already submitted, customers will be hoping that normal PeoPay functionality returns soon.
