A man has died after a fast-moving house fire destroyed a home in Acacia Ridge in Brisbane’s south on Saturday afternoon, prompting a major emergency response and the declaration of a crime scene.
Emergency services were called to a property at the corner of Foote and Annear streets just after 1pm, where a single-storey house was already engulfed in flames. A man who was inside at the time could not be rescued and was declared dead at the scene.
Fire crews managed to bring the blaze under control by about 1:45pm, but not before the structure was completely destroyed. Four fire crews remained at the site alongside specialist units and drone teams as authorities began assessing the damage and securing the area.
Police closed Foote Street between Mortimer Road and Annear Street, urging motorists to avoid the area. Residents nearby were advised to remain indoors and keep windows closed as emergency operations continued.
