Bruno Fernandes ended Manchester Unitedâs Premier League season by making history. The Portuguese midfielder delivered his 21st assist of the campaign during Unitedâs final-day clash against Brighton, officially setting a new record for the most assists ever recorded in a single Premier League season.
The Manchester United captain broke the long-standing mark of 20 assists previously shared by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry from the 2002-03 season and Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne from 2019-20.
Fernandes reached the milestone after providing a precise corner delivery for Patrick Dorgu, whose powerful header gave United the lead at the Amex Stadium. The moment immediately became one of the defining highlights of the 2025-26 Premier League season.

The assist record added another achievement to an already remarkable campaign for Fernandes. Just one day earlier, the 31-year-old had been named Premier League Player of the Season following a year in which he consistently carried Manchester United creatively.
Fernandes had already matched the assists record in Unitedâs previous match against Nottingham Forest when he set up Bryan Mbeumo for the teamâs third goal. Against Brighton, he moved clear of Henry and De Bruyne to take sole ownership of the record.
According to Sky Sports, Fernandes also broke David Beckhamâs Manchester United record for most assists in a Premier League season earlier this year. Beckhamâs previous club record of 15 assists had stood since the 1999-2000 campaign.
The numbers underline how important Fernandes has been to Unitedâs attacking structure this season. Alongside his 21 assists, he also contributed goals regularly and finished the campaign with 30 direct goal involvements in the league.

What makes the achievement more impressive is the level of players Fernandes surpassed. Thierry Henryâs 20-assist season is widely considered one of the greatest individual campaigns in Premier League history, while Kevin De Bruyneâs record-equalling season came during Manchester Cityâs dominant era under Pep Guardiola.
Fernandes has now placed himself alongside those names while captaining one of footballâs most heavily scrutinised clubs. Throughout the season, he repeatedly credited his team-mates for helping him reach the record, insisting goalscorers deserve equal recognition for converting chances.
The midfielderâs overall Manchester United record now stands above 100 goals combined with a huge assist tally since joining from Sporting CP in 2020. His leadership and consistency have become central to the clubâs rebuild.
Manchester United supporters will remember the Brighton match as more than a final-day fixture. It became the afternoon Bruno Fernandes officially delivered the most creative season the Premier League has ever seen.
