Captain Rick Shelford confirmed the devastating news on Monday, March 2, sharing an emotional message about the loss aboard the Aleutian Lady.
“February 25, 2026 was the most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady on the Bering Sea,” Shelford wrote. “We lost our brother, Todd Meadows.”
Remembering Todd Meadows
Meadows had recently joined the crew but had already made a lasting impression. According to Shelford, he quickly became part of the tight-knit fishing family featured on Discovery Channel’s long-running series Deadliest Catch.
“Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family,” Shelford shared. “His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away.”
Crew members remembered his infectious energy and dedication. Shelford described Meadows’ “contagious smile” and the unmistakable sound of his laughter echoing from the wheelhouse and across the deck — memories that will now carry even deeper meaning.
Beyond his work on the vessel, those closest to him emphasized his devotion to his children and family.
“Todd’s love for his children, his family, and his life was evident in everything he did,” Shelford wrote. “He worked hard, loved deeply, and brought joy to those around him.”
