President Donald Trump appeared Monday with a noticeable red mark on the back of his neck while delivering remarks at the White House.
During a public address discussing U.S. military action involving Iran, photographers captured images of what appeared to be a dark red patch of irritated skin visible above the president’s collar. In photos taken by AFP photographer Saul Loeb, the mark appeared raised and scabbed.
The cause of the skin irritation was not immediately confirmed. Medical experts note that red patches of this nature can stem from a variety of common conditions, including contact dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, heat rash, or shingles. Without an official diagnosis, it remains unclear what specifically led to the visible mark.
In response to questions, a statement from Captain Sean Barbarella, a Navy emergency physician serving as the president’s doctor, addressed the issue. According to the statement, the president has been applying a “very common cream” to the right side of his neck as part of a preventative skin treatment prescribed by the White House medical team.
“The president is using this treatment for one week, and the redness is expected to last for a few weeks,” the statement said.
In separate photographs taken the same day, observers also noted discoloration on Trump’s right hand. This follows previous instances over recent months in which bruising on the back of his hand had drawn public attention.
The White House has previously attributed hand bruising to frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin, which can increase susceptibility to bruising. However, online speculation has periodically surfaced regarding potential underlying causes, though no official medical concerns have been publicly disclosed.
The latest images quickly circulated on social media, where users debated possible explanations. As of now, the White House maintains that the neck irritation is temporary and linked to topical treatment, not a broader health issue.
Public appearances by political leaders often draw intense scrutiny, and minor physical changes can quickly become subjects of widespread discussion. For now, officials insist the visible redness is expected to resolve in the coming weeks.
