Euphoria Buries Nate Alive in Brutal Season 3 Twist That Leaves Fans Shocked

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Euphoria Season 3 Episode 7.

HBO’s Euphoria delivered one of the most shocking moments in the series’ history after finally killing off Nate Jacobs, played by Jacob Elordi, in Season 3 Episode 7. The brutal death scene instantly sparked massive reactions online, with fans debating whether the controversial character received the ending he deserved.

The episode follows Nate as the criminal and financial problems surrounding his construction business finally spiral out of control. Earlier this season, Nate took over his father Cal’s company, but several projects quickly collapsed because of legal trouble linked to an endangered flower known as the white fritillary. The show also revealed that Nate had conned investors and borrowed large amounts of money from dangerous criminals, including gangster Naz.

After Nate fails to repay the debt, Naz kidnaps him and buries him alive inside a coffin underground. A pipe is left above the surface so Nate can continue breathing while Cassie is given 72 hours to gather enough money to save him.

But things take a horrifying turn before anyone can rescue him.

A rattlesnake crawls through the breathing pipe and bites Nate while he remains trapped underground. When Cassie and Maddy finally arrive with the money, they discover Nate dead inside the coffin instead of being rescued alive. The disturbing sequence has already become one of the darkest scenes ever shown in the HBO drama.

The violence does not stop there. Naz is later fatally shot by rival gangster Alamo, turning the storyline into one of the bloodiest arcs of the season.

Nate’s Personality Change Divided Fans

Nate has been one of Euphoria’s most feared and hated characters since the show first premiered in 2019. During the first two seasons, he manipulated classmates, emotionally abused Maddy and Cassie, blackmailed people around him and constantly behaved with aggression and intimidation.

Season 3, however, introduced a very different version of Nate. Set five years after high school, the new episodes portrayed him as calmer, softer and far more emotional than before. He appeared genuinely committed to Cassie and no longer acted like the constantly violent figure viewers remembered from earlier seasons.

That dramatic personality shift immediately divided fans online. Many viewers criticised the writing and argued that Nate no longer felt like the same character. Some social media reactions mocked the sudden transformation by joking that the show had effectively given him a “lobotomy.”

The season also featured several brutal confrontations involving Naz. Earlier episodes showed Naz interrupting Nate and Cassie’s wedding after Nate failed to repay half a million dollars. During the attack, Naz’s men violently beat Nate and even cut off one of his toes before it was later surgically reattached.

Jacob Elordi Reflects on Leaving Euphoria

Jacob Elordi’s exit marks a major turning point for Euphoria. The HBO series helped turn Elordi, Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney into global stars, while Nate remained one of the show’s central characters throughout its run.

Elordi has previously spoken about how important the role was for his career, revealing that he was nearly out of money before landing the part. Since then, he has gone on to star in major projects including Saltburn, Priscilla and Frankenstein.
