A new international rail route is set to give travelers a direct connection across three European countries for the price of a budget meal. Starting June 25, Czech private operator Leo Express will launch a daily train service linking Frankfurt in Germany with Przemyśl in southeastern Poland, covering more than 1,300 kilometres (807 miles) on a single journey.

With fares starting from €10, the service is expected to attract budget-conscious travelers, rail enthusiasts and passengers looking for an alternative to short-haul flights. The route will pass through major cities including Prague, Kraków, Dresden and Leipzig, creating a new transport corridor between Western and Eastern Europe.

At a time when European rail operators are expanding cross-border services, the launch stands out because of both its length and strategic location. Przemyśl sits only a short distance from the Ukrainian border, making the route relevant not just for tourism but also for regional connectivity.

One Train, Three Countries and Eight Major Cities

The new Leo Express service will operate once daily in both directions. Along the route, passengers will travel through Frankfurt, Erfurt, Leipzig, Dresden, Prague, Ostrava, Kraków and Przemyśl without needing to change trains.

That makes the service attractive for travelers who typically face multiple transfers when moving between Germany, Czechia and Poland. Instead of coordinating separate tickets and connection times, passengers can complete the journey on a single service.

Each stop serves a different purpose. Frankfurt provides access to one of Europe’s busiest financial centres and international airports. How Long Does the Journey Take?

Traveling the entire route requires commitment. The full journey takes up to 18 hours and 30 minutes, placing it among the longest direct train services currently operating in Europe.

Train 232 will leave Przemyśl at 1:31 p.m. and arrive at Frankfurt Airport at 7:53 a.m. the following morning. The return service, Train 235, departs Frankfurt at 8:27 a.m. and reaches Przemyśl at 2:23 a.m.

While flying remains faster for many city pairs, rail supporters often point to other advantages including city-centre departures, fewer security procedures and the ability to work, relax or sleep during long journeys.

The route also creates a convenient connection for passengers traveling to and from Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs. Travelers from eastern Germany, Czechia and southern Poland can reach the airport without changing trains, something that has not previously been possible on a single direct service.
