Facebook Immersive Video Feed Test: Launch Countries, US Plans and How to Opt Out

Facebook will test a new video-first mobile experience later in 2026, opening the app directly in a full-screen video player for selected users. Meta, Facebook’s parent company, plans to begin the limited trial in international markets where video viewing is especially popular.

The experiment will not replace Facebook’s familiar Feed for everyone. People included in the test will be able to opt out, while Classic Feed will remain available as the app’s second tab.

Where will the new Facebook design be tested?

Meta has not identified the participating countries, launch date or number of accounts involved. The company said only a subset of people considered likely to want more video will receive the redesigned opening screen.

A United States trial could follow in 2027, but that expansion is not confirmed. Meta will first assess how people use the international version before deciding whether to introduce it elsewhere.

What will change when users open Facebook?

Selected accounts will enter an immersive, full-screen video feed as soon as the Facebook app launches. The present home screen normally combines updates from friends, Groups and Pages with recommended posts, advertisements and video.

The approach resembles the opening experience offered by video-led platforms such as TikTok, although Meta has not released a complete preview of the interface. Posts, Groups, Marketplace, Dating and other Facebook services will continue to exist.

Tom Alison, head of Facebook, said the company is responding to increased demand for visual and video-focused experiences. Meta explained the test in its official Facebook product announcement.

Can users return to the regular Feed?

Yes. Anyone selected for the experiment will have the option to leave the video-first layout and restore a Feed-first experience. Classic Feed will also remain one tap away in the second tab.

Meta has not published instructions showing where the opt-out control will appear. No action is required before testing begins; the relevant setting should become available only to participating accounts.

Why is Facebook giving video more prominence?

Facebook already uses algorithmic recommendations to place videos and Reels alongside posts from personal connections. Opening directly in video would give entertainment and recommended content a more prominent position without permanently removing the traditional Feed.

The experiment fits with Meta’s broader investment in AI-powered recommendations, which helps determine which posts and videos appear for each account.

The test may change how quickly people encounter content from accounts they do not follow. Its practical impact will depend on recommendation controls, advertising frequency and how easily users can return to Classic Feed—details Meta has not yet disclosed.

What details remain unconfirmed?

Meta has not explained whether videos will begin playing with sound, how autoplay will affect mobile-data use or whether the experience will differ between Android and iPhone. Information about advertising placement, parental controls and account-selection criteria is also unavailable.

For now, the confirmed change is a limited international test rather than a global Facebook redesign. Classic Feed will remain accessible, participation will not be permanent, and any US launch remains a possibility for 2027 rather than a scheduled rollout.
