PSN Down Today: PlayStation Network Status After Marvel Tokon Beta Launch

PlayStation Network began recovering on July 24, 2026, after thousands of PS5 and PS4 users reported login failures, unavailable games and broken online features. The PSN outage emerged only hours after the Marvel TĹŤkon: Fighting Souls open beta launched on PS5 and PC, although no direct connection between the two events was confirmed.

Reports began rising at around 12pm BST in the UK. Downdetector recorded more than 6,000 UK complaints at the peak, alongside reports from the United States and parts of Europe.

Is PlayStation Network still down?

The disruption was intermittent rather than a complete shutdown. Some players signed in after repeated attempts, while others could not access multiplayer games, PlayStation Plus, trophies, friends lists, the PS App or individual PlayStation Store pages.

Access started improving during the afternoon, and the rate of new complaints gradually declined. Recovery remained uneven, with certain features briefly returning before failing again for some users.

Sony’s official PlayStation Network status page continued to list Account Management, Gaming and Social, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct as operational during much of the disruption. Sony’s support accounts had not acknowledged a widespread outage in the initial reporting period.

WS-116486-6 error disrupts Marvel TĹŤkon beta

Some PS5 users encountered error code WS-116486-6, which PlayStation identifies as a problem connecting to the server. Other symptoms included slow console menus, failed licence verification, network-error screens and difficulty opening digitally purchased games.

The timing was especially disruptive for Marvel TĹŤkon: Fighting Souls. The Arc System Works-developed fighting game had opened its beta on PS5 and PC earlier that day, marking the first public opportunity to test the PC version.

Steam tracking data showed approximately 22,087 concurrent players during the opening period. The figure did not include PS5 participation but demonstrated strong early interest before the weekend.

PC players also needed a PlayStation Network account, so PSN authentication failures could block them from entering the beta. Users reported “server busy” and network-error messages while attempting to connect.

The official Marvel Tōkon account acknowledged that some PlayStation players were experiencing login and network problems. Its team said it was actively investigating, working to identify the cause and would provide updates through the game’s official channels and Discord community.

Was the PSN outage caused by AWS?

Amazon Web Services experienced routing and connectivity problems during the same period and later reported that its affected services had recovered. Difficulties were reported across several other online platforms, making the AWS incident a possible factor in PSN’s instability.

However, Sony had not officially identified AWS as the direct cause. There was also no verified evidence that Marvel TĹŤkon player demand or a cyberattack triggered the outage. The timing of separate incidents does not establish responsibility without technical confirmation.

The disruption follows an earlier PSN multiplayer outage affecting PS5 and PS4 users, when player experiences also differed from the information displayed on Sony’s dashboard.

What should affected PS5 and PS4 players do?

Players should check Sony’s status page before changing account or console settings. Restarting the console and router, waiting at least five minutes and testing the connection again may help as services recover.

Avoid reinstalling games, repeatedly resetting passwords or unlinking a PlayStation account during a widespread server problem. Those actions cannot repair an external outage and may create additional download or login difficulties.

If PSN is operational but gameplay remains slow, reviewing the recommended PS5 settings for performance and reduced lag can help distinguish a console-side issue from a network failure.

Offline titles may remain available when the console is enabled for offline use and the game does not require permanent authentication. Marvel Tōkon players should monitor the game’s official updates before assuming that a failed login is caused by their device or internet provider.
