Marvel’s Wolverine has finally broken cover with its most detailed gameplay reveal yet, giving PlayStation fans a closer look at Logan’s brutal combat, darker mutant storyline, major character reveals and launch plans. During Sony’s latest State of Play presentation, Insomniac Games showcased new gameplay footage while confirming that Marvel’s Wolverine will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
The single-player action adventure centers on James “Logan” Howlett in an original story that goes beyond claw combat. The new footage reveals Logan tracking a group of mutants who have been hunted and captured by the Reavers, a heavily armed cybernetic militia. The Reavers are working for Bolivar Trask, a billionaire industrialist whose belief in human superiority puts mutants directly in his sights.
The situation facing mutants in Marvel’s Wolverine appears grim. Forced to live in the shadows and hunted by powerful enemies, they have few allies left. One of those allies is Team X, a mutant task force that Logan abandoned three years earlier before eventually returning when the threat becomes impossible to ignore.

One of the biggest reveals from the State of Play showcase is Jean Grey. The powerful telekinetic mutant appears as an emerging leader among the captured mutants and becomes a key ally in Logan’s fight against Trask and the Reavers. Gameplay footage shows Jean using her abilities to throw enemies, disrupt attacks and create opportunities for devastating team-based takedowns.
Insomniac calls these finishing moves Critical Strikes. They can be executed by Wolverine alone or alongside other characters during combat encounters. The system adds another layer to battles that already feature fast claw attacks, stealth takedowns, aerial ambushes and defensive parries.
Logan also gains access to special combat moves known as Techniques. Confirmed abilities include Tornado Spin and Bull Rush, allowing players to overwhelm groups of enemies or quickly close distance during fights. Every successful attack, parry and elimination builds Logan’s Rage meter, one of the game’s core mechanics.
Rage can be spent on stronger attacks or used to activate Wolverine’s famous Healing Factor after taking severe damage. If players push the system further, they can unleash Rage Tier 3, a stylized black-and-white combat mode inspired by Marvel Comics’ Black, White & Blood series. When defeat appears inevitable, Last Stand can activate Logan’s Healing Factor and keep him alive long enough to turn the fight around.

Motorcycle Combat, Accessibility Features and Sabretooth Tease
The gameplay showcase also featured one of the game’s largest action sequences. Logan races through a highway convoy on a motorcycle, destroying vehicles, slashing tires, leaping between trucks and battling powerful Brute-class enemies. The sequence highlights the cinematic scale Insomniac is aiming for throughout the campaign.
Beyond combat, the studio confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will launch with a broad range of accessibility features designed for players with cognitive, visual, auditory and motor disabilities. The commitment follows accessibility initiatives seen in previous PlayStation first-party releases.
The trailer ends with several major teases, including additional enemy factions, more unlockable suits and what appears to be the first official look at Sabretooth. The iconic Wolverine villain only appears briefly, but his presence suggests a larger role in Logan’s journey and immediately became one of the most talked-about moments from the presentation.
