Sony Confirms Massive PlayStation State of Play With Wolverine and Big PS5 Reveals

Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially confirmed its next major PlayStation State of Play presentation for June 2, and early details suggest the event could become one of the company’s biggest PS5 showcases of 2026.

The broadcast will stream live globally at 2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET through PlayStation’s official YouTube and Twitch channels. Sony says the presentation will run for more than 60 minutes and include major announcements, gameplay reveals and updates from studios around the world.

The headline attraction is Marvel’s Wolverine, the highly anticipated PS5 exclusive from Insomniac Games. Sony confirmed the show will open with a deeper gameplay presentation focused on Logan’s combat, gameplay mechanics and new story details ahead of the game’s September 15 release date.

Why This State of Play Matters for PS5

This showcase arrives at an important time for Sony. PlayStation fans have spent months waiting for clearer updates on the company’s upcoming first-party PS5 lineup. Wolverine has remained one of the platform’s most anticipated exclusives since its original reveal, especially after the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Beyond Wolverine, industry speculation around the event is already building quickly. Reports and online rumors suggest Sony could also provide updates connected to a possible new God of War project, Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and other unannounced PlayStation Studios games.

There is also growing attention around potential third-party reveals. Some fans believe the event could feature another look at Grand Theft Auto 6, especially because Sony reportedly maintains a marketing partnership with Rockstar Games.

Sony Expands State of Play Into Movie Theaters

One of the most unusual parts of this year’s showcase is Sony’s partnership with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. For the first time, the State of Play broadcast will be screened live inside select theaters across the United States.

Participating locations include New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth and Raleigh. The event will feature themed food and drinks along with additional surprises for attendees.

Alamo Drafthouse CEO Michael Kustermann said the collaboration reflects the growing connection between gaming, movies and live entertainment experiences. Sony marketing executive Jill Erb also described State of Play as a major event for the global PlayStation community and said the theatrical screenings are designed to create a shared fan experience.

Admission is technically free, although fans must reserve seats using a refundable food and non-alcoholic beverage voucher redeemable during the event.

According to the official PlayStation Blog, the June 2 broadcast will feature updates and reveals from top game studios worldwide.

With Wolverine confirmed, live theater screenings planned and strong speculation surrounding surprise PS5 announcements, Sony’s upcoming State of Play has quickly become one of the most closely watched gaming events of the summer.
